Couldn't leave this alone. Is David Gill going to apologise to Wolves?

DETECTIVES have released CCTV images of an alleged soccer hooligan suspected of leaving a 64-year-old rival fan with a fractured skull.

A group of around eight Manchester United fans punched and kicked Wolves fan David Stevens, leaving him needing hospital treatment, after the FA cup match at Wolverhampton on February 1.

Police are appealing for anyone who recognises the man in the photograph to contact them.

One man was arrested at the scene in connection with the attack and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Retired Mr Stevens, from Halesowen in the West Midlands, was walking to Wolverhampton train station when the gang attacked him after a fight broke out between rival fans shortly before 6pm.

He needed emergency surgery and was left with a fractured skull and a damaged cheekbone.

AGONY: David Stephens.Agony

Mr Stevens says the attack was the "worst day of his life". He said: "I'm devastated - it has changed my life completely. There was eight of them just punching and kicking me as I lay on the floor.

"Whenever I try to straighten my arm I'm in absolute agony."

The trouble started when a Manchester United fan launched an unprovoked attack on Mr Stevens's son Wayne, 38, after the FA Cup clash at Wolves' Molineux ground.

Mr Stevens followed the group about 20 yards behind them, hoping to provide police with a detailed description of his son's attacker.

However, when he was spotted by the gang, they set upon him and beat and kicked him.

He added: "I have been following Wolves for 55 years and have never had any trouble or seen anything like this. I am a 64-year-old man - why would I provoke a group of young lads?"

DC Philip Taylor, from the British Transport Police, said: "The assault was particularly vicious and completely unprovoked. The victim is a retired man who was walking towards the railway station alone."

has it become a competition which fans can act like the biggest twunts or summet?

Thing is though Bran that senior staff like Poynton and Parry feel the need to apologise to Man U however when things have happened the other way there is never any reciprocal apologies.

Moi....your club apologised for what happened INSIDE the ground....no mention of what happened to the ambulance smithy was in and rightly so....once you step outside the ground its no longer the clubs problem...not that i agree with that totally but its how FIFA deal with it and it seems its how all the other clubs deal with it.....

most of the complaints on here are about how greater manchester police deal with you on the way into and out of the ground

British Transport police spokesman??...does this imply that the incident occurred well away from the ground?...i think it does.

It is a fact that what was reported 'happened to the ambulance' - actually didn't.

I know exactly what happened myself.

No. I haven't.

I don't think Liverpool should have offered an apology as Manchester United has been doing that kind of thing routinely for years.

I certainly wouldn't expect a club as scummy as Manchester United to apologise for anything. Horrible club. Worst in Europe by a country mile.

well we certainly dont have the experience in handing out apologies like your club has.

strangely i dont feel a sense of shame for this.

agreed. no problems whatsoever.

in fact, most fans are very positive about liverpool fans that they have come across.

examples can be seen with betis and benfica fans this season.

cant speak for others, but dredging up the past is not a positive or meaningful thing to bring up (by any fans, i might add).

agree that all clubs have w*****s as supporters, but lately, some Utd fans do seem to feel the need to bring up every Liverpool indiscretion, big or small. not sure why this is the case.
