You Favourite Liverpool Goal & Why...

So which is your own favourite Liverpool goal of all time, and why?

It may have been a particularly important goal, particularly good goal or perhaps had some personal meaning to you.

Mine would have to be Owen's winner in the Cup Final; it was a beautiful, roasting hot day and it seemed like everything was set for a great final. We saw some of the old LFC legends, Rushie etc singing along with the fans in the streets around the ground, we had cold beers and were standing out in the sun - it was just perfect.

But as soon as everyone had settled in and the game had started, it had all gone horribly wrong; we'd been absolutely battered in that game - Sami had made about 3 clearances off the line (and Henchoz one very famous one as well), we hadn't been anywhere near their goal all game, and everyone around me felt deflated. It looked like we wouldn't score if we played until the start of next season.

Then suddenly we'd gone level out of nowhere with Mikey's swivel and shot, and the game was on again.

AS the clock ticked down Berger launched that long pass, and as Owen ran onto it there was a collective intake of breath.

The ball seemed to take forever to creep past Seaman's hand, and as it nestled into the corner, there was an explosion of sheer ecstasy. We were sitting right over in the corner where Owen did his celebratory somersault, high up, going absolutely mental. I remember saying 'it just doesn't get any better than this'; and I don't think it does.

I felt for the Arsenal - they'd been by far the better team and lost, yet even still their fans were gracious in defeat after the game.

Istanbul eclipsed that Cup Final as an occasion of course, but for the sheer joy of the ball hitting the net, I think Owen's winner still has it for me.

Happy days - what I'd give for another FA Cup final this year...

1. It all started there

111. "What a hit son what a hit"

D. It was my little fellas first game.

Would have said Owen's goal against Arsenal, but one of my other favourite goals, was scored by John Aldridge against N Forest in the 1988 FA Cup Semi Final.

Great wing play by Barnes, one-two with Beardsley, fantastic first time ball in the box and John Aldridge with flying volley into top left hand corner. We were on fire that season. Stunning team goal.

Love seeing flowing team moves like that. Shows how beautiful football can be, when played with speed and skill

Aldridge versus Arsenal in 1988. We are all over them, a mis-hit clearance from one of theirs looks to be going out of play but then Steve McMahon almost senselessly motors over to keep it in. He stops the ball on the line, runs into the advertising hording, turns, and powers away leaving two Arsenal players in his wake. Slips a through ball into Beardsley who carries the ball into the box past another player. He flicks it across goal and there's Aldridge at the back post, five yards out. Back when Motson was good..."That's the poacher's position".

What we're all about.

Stunning goal that was. We could create a great list of goals from that season alone.

Barnes 2 goals against QPR at home, Nicol's 25 yard header at Arsenal, etc

My choice certainly won't be one of the best we scored, or even one of great importance, but for me it was the on the turn first time left foot volley from the corner of the box by Rush against Villa all those years ago. Simply because it was such an out of character goal for him

i've always liked Bergers goal away to Derby when we battered them 4 nil, there were about 20 passes before Bergers 30yard shot into the corner of the net

Terry Mac scored 2 belters against Spurs, at Anfield and White Hart Lane, but it has to be King Kenny's in 86 at Stamford Bridge (because it was my first ever away game)

Terry Mac against Spurs (I think) hewas way out wide, he knocked it up (From a throw in I think) hit it on the on the volley on the turn and it curled into the far top corner. It was the one that was on the beginng credits of Question Of Sport for ages, and some say it was meant to be a cross but I reckon he hit to well for it to be a cross.

Saturday September 2, 1978. Liverpool 7 Tottenham Hotspur 0. Last goal.

Ball comes out of our area, Dalglish collects possession just ourside the 'D' and lays the ball out to the right for David Johnson.

Johnson hits a long crossfield ball into the path of the Steve Heighway who is bombing down the left wing.

Heighway sends over a pinpoint cross to the far post where Terry McDermott arrives, having run the length of the field, to head into the top right corner beyond Daines.

The why? Because that flowing move summed up for me what football should be like.

Ditto. Wish I had us a clip of that move.

Wasn't that the goal the referee celebrated as well?

There was another goal from 87/88 that beardsley scored at anfield, beating 2 or 3 before chipping the keeper.

I've seen that goal in old videos its absolutely fantastic, one of the best moves i've ever seen.

Again, Owen against Arsenal in the FA cup final for all the reasons Leo has already mentioned.

Honourable mentions recently also include Mellor v. Arsenal, and Gary Mac at Goodison.

Not the most fantastic goal ever ever ever, but the first one that always pops into my head when asked is Fowler's first-time shot from the edge of the box in one of the 4-3s, the one where he slides into the goal after it on his nose.

Lovely, crisp move, and something about the way he strikes it is just magic.

I loved this goal as well. The match-winning header the following year wasn't too bad either

Because it was the pringboard to what it ended up giving us, I'd have to say Stevie's against Olympiakos.

Vlad's in Istanbul with the Mike Ingham voiceover comes a very very close second.

Impossible to choose one, but a goal that still makes me smile is one of Fowlers. The last Derby with the Kop standing. They had just equalised, and the bluescheits on the Kop were cheering, chanting and taking the piss as you'd expect.

Within seconds, the ball comes straight down to the Kop end and Robbie banged it in. Most of the Everton fans were still facing us, and when we went mental, they were left totally in shock.
