FAO New York/East Coast US folks

I am planning on coming over for a wedding in New York early May and fancy tagging on an extra 3/4 days at a nice beach / country resort. Where should I be looking that is no more than a few hours drive or accessible by plane or train? Happy to go North , South, or East or even fly back from Boston or Washington, if thats better. Preferably beach.
