NWR Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 (edited) Taken from RC Liverpool make fans apology Liverpool have apologised to Manchester United for the behaviour of their fans during last month's highly-charged FA Cup tie at Anfield. The club and Merseyside Police have carried out an investigation after a number of incidents where United fans at the Anfield Road end were attacked by home supporters. There was one incident of human excrement being thrown towards United supporters as well as coins and food being aimed in their direction. Liverpool stadium and operations manager Ged Poynton has written to United admitting standards of behaviour had "fallen short" of that expected. Poynton added in the News of the World: "We hold our hands up as a club. We deplore what certain fans have done. "I use the word coward very reservedly but I class anyone who wants to throw a coin or something else when they are leaving as cowards. "I am ashamed to admit in one case excrement was thrown. How low can you get? We did what we could, we tried to brush people down and compensate those involved." Tensions between the rivals had been running higher than usual going into the February 18 match - won 1-0 by Liverpool - after a controversial end to a Premiership encounter between the sides the previous month. United's Gary Neville had run to celebrate in front of Liverpool fans after Rio Ferdinand headed a later winner at Old Trafford. The cup tie was also marred by a section of home fans taunting United's Alan Smith after breaking his leg late in the match. http://www.teamtalk.com/teamtalk/New...096101,00.html Sorry about the typo in the title. Cunny Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I thought that they apologised straight away. Is this a new apology? I take it was can expect a full apology from Man U for similar things happening down the years at OT

I take it was can expect a full apology from Man U for similar things happening down the years at OT Not sure if this is another apology, saw this yesterday. Dont hold your breath for one back. Fans of all club are the same, well a minority at each club.
cymrococh Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 No mention of Liverpool fans being battered as they left Old Trafford.
RP Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 As I understand it, the issuing of an apology has gone down very badly within certain areas of the Club.
Benitez Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Ridicuolous to issue that statement. What the fec did they do that for? No need whatsover, otherwise every fecin club should be issuing statments for one thing or another every week.

NWR Posted March 20, 2006 Author Posted March 20, 2006 Do you think Gallas will be blamed for the fighting on the pitch yesterday?

Andy @ Allerton Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Not sure if this is another apology, saw this yesterday. Dont hold your breath for one back. Fans of all club are the same, well a minority at each club. Everytime I've been to Old Trafford - we've been pelted with crap from start to finish - we get attacked going into and leaving the ground. The GMP let it happen and keep out of the way - we've had cars and coaches bricked and set on fire and I've seen young kids and women assaulted. I'll be expecting the apology from Manchester United in the post shall I? Not to mention the apolgies for singing the disgusting songs they sang all through that fixture at Anfield - even 50 year old fellas singing the most unbelievable songs I never thought I'd hear in a football ground. Funny how the media missed that isn't it? Funny how they also missed the standing ovation for Smith when he went off.
Ostrich Man Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Not to mention the apolgies for singing the disgusting songs they sang all through that fixture at Anfield - even 50 year old fellas singing the most unbelievable songs I never thought I'd hear in a football ground. were they songs celebrating/relishing the deaths of others andy?? or were they worse than that........ had your ears shut throughout 70s/80s lad
matty Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I think an apology is the right thing to do. Two wrongs don't make a right, and throwing s*** at people is very unpleasant. Given that, MUFC should start thinking about how Liverpool fans are treated at Old Trafford. This whole thing is escalating seriously, and both clubs need to be aware of the fact that something must be done.
Ombudsam Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Ridicuolous to issue that statement. What the fec did they do that for? No need whatsover, otherwise every fecin club should be issuing statments for one thing or another every week. I don't think we issued a statement. It was a private letter that a fan made public i think

NWR Posted March 20, 2006 Author Posted March 20, 2006 (edited) We are rivals. Thats all we are. We are all people who just like football and have an intense dislike of the others team. But thats as far as it goes for most of us. The people involved in the mentioned incidents from both sides are not normal. They should be removed from supporting football. I could post a picture of fans celebrating a goal. All have happy faces. If you could not see any shirts or colours you would not be able who they supported, if they were scouse or manc Edited March 20, 2006 by N.W.R.Devil

John am Rhein Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 As I understand it, the issuing of an apology has gone down very badly within certain areas of the Club. And so it should. We should never apologize for anything that happens to those c*nts.
smicer07 Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 A fabricated apology then. Nobody would put "How low can you get?"- a personal opinion- in an apology. Some amusing Manc has clearly edited this one.
moi Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 A fabricated apology then. Nobody would put "How low can you get?"- a personal opinion- in an apology. Some amusing Manc has clearly edited this one. Has Gill wrote to Wolves and apologised yet? http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/men/news..._on_camera.html DETECTIVES have released CCTV images of an alleged soccer hooligan suspected of leaving a 64-year-old rival fan with a fractured skull. A group of around eight Manchester United fans punched and kicked Wolves fan David Stevens, leaving him needing hospital treatment, after the FA cup match at Wolverhampton on February 1. Police are appealing for anyone who recognises the man in the photograph to contact them. One man was arrested at the scene in connection with the attack and has been released on bail pending further inquiries. Retired Mr Stevens, from Halesowen in the West Midlands, was walking to Wolverhampton train station when the gang attacked him after a fight broke out between rival fans shortly before 6pm. He needed emergency surgery and was left with a fractured skull and a damaged cheekbone. AGONY: David Stephens.Agony Mr Stevens says the attack was the "worst day of his life". He said: "I'm devastated - it has changed my life completely. There was eight of them just punching and kicking me as I lay on the floor. "Whenever I try to straighten my arm I'm in absolute agony." The trouble started when a Manchester United fan launched an unprovoked attack on Mr Stevens's son Wayne, 38, after the FA Cup clash at Wolves' Molineux ground. Mr Stevens followed the group about 20 yards behind them, hoping to provide police with a detailed description of his son's attacker. However, when he was spotted by the gang, they set upon him and beat and kicked him. He added: "I have been following Wolves for 55 years and have never had any trouble or seen anything like this. I am a 64-year-old man - why would I provoke a group of young lads?" DC Philip Taylor, from the British Transport Police, said: "The assault was particularly vicious and completely unprovoked. The victim is a retired man who was walking towards the railway station alone."
