Guest Red Mist Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Bullard hopes for Germany call-up Wigan midfielder Jimmy Bullard has put himself forward for a shock World Cup call up by Germany. Bullard, 27, has a German grandmother and has told national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann he is available. He told The People: "The paperwork has been sorted and if Jurgen rang I'd definitely be interested. "I used to play with England midfielder Frank Lampard at West Ham and the chance to face him in the World Cup would be too good to turn down."This is bizarre. WHAT does Bullard know about Germany? Does he speak the lingo? Has he ever even been to the country? What, other than a greedy desire to sample the world cup, could possibly motivate someone to play for a country to which they have no meaningful link? So his grandmother is German, big fecking deal. I'm assuming his parents are English and that he was born in England, therefore there is no way he should be eligible to play for Germany. And he must be bonkers if he thinks Klinsmann would give him a second though. Germany, as bad as they are, are not that desperate that they would call on the servies of Jimmy Bullard!

Dangling another line in the water to see who bites...
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Dangling another line in the water to see who bites... I think he's a genius everything from his user name, to his writing, is like performance art a terrific WUM
Guest Red Mist Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Surely I can't be the only one to be slightly bemused by what Bullard is proposing?

Reggie Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 (edited) He's a character, Bullard. When the lights went out in the Wigan - Arsenal game he played on and tryed to score a goal. Personally I think he's pulling the piss. I wonder if his grandfather is Irish? Edited March 20, 2006 by Reggie
Nebraska Red Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 he claims to have watched the season of "Auf Wiedersehen Pet" when the lads worked in germany. he also claims to prefer German beer to the brown ale he gets in Wigan.
fyds Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 (edited) Bullard owns TWO Kraftwerk albums, is a regular Frankfurter eater, drives an Audi TT, Knows all the words to 'Neun und Neunzig Luftballon' and has terrible dress sense. He's a Nazional Elf Spieler if ever there was one... Edited March 20, 2006 by fyds
R A Softlad Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 He also denounces the works of Stan Boardman.
John am Rhein Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Surely I can't be the only one to be slightly bemused by what Bullard is proposing? (if you're being serious) then what's bemusing about it? Lawrenson, Cascarino, etc. play for Ireland, Vinny Jones plays for Wales, Bullard plays for Germany (well, that's actually very unlikely since he's not considered good enough) - what's the difference?

Bullard plays for Germany (well, that's actually very unlikely since he's not considered good enough) Oh I don't know - I'm sure he's quite capable of fitting into any side that can lose 4-1- to Italy .... I'd love to see him take the new nationality test, though.

Maldini Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 not to mention barnes and owen playing for england.......and Le Saux and Butcher. Matt Le Tiss too?
John am Rhein Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I'd love to see him take the new nationality test, though. What IS the new nationality test?
Guest Red Mist Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Barnesy grew up in England. I don't think Jamaica had a national team at the time anyway. He played his club football in England, he spoke the language, understood the culture etc. He was as close an Englishman as you can get - without really being English. Now what sort of connection does Bullard have with Germany, other than his grandmother being born there? I just find it hard to understand why anyone would want to represent a country that they clearly do not belong to. The same applies to all those Englishmen who suddenly discover they have Irish roots and get a call up from Ireland. FIFA needs to put a stop to this nonsense. You should only be allowed to represent the country you were born in, or grew up in from an early age. No ancestral b0llocks, otherwise I?d be eligible to represent Iran, some Scandinavian countries, France, Germany and Italy if I take in the entire history of the British Isles, and its Norman/Saxon/Roman/Viking heritage. And Persian, from my granddad?s side.
SteveT Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 What IS the new nationality test? A hairbrained idea consisting of 100 questions (to be answered in German of course) about great Germans and their literary, artistic, engineering, scientific and sporting achievements. Proposed by the Hesse CDU interior minster to test the worthiness of all who wish to take out German citizenship. So even if they needed an entirely new team, Bullard still wouldn't have a chance with that test

And Persian, from my granddad?s side. Would be nice but not quite as simple as that. Take someone like Gary Breen for example. To the casual observer he's as English as Hugh Grant but comes from an Irish family, supported Ireland as a kid, wore replica Ireland kits growing up. Only ever wanted to play for Ireland. It's never just black and white as there can be many shades of grey when it comes to a person's national allegiances.
Romario Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 What about that Manc kid who players in the lower leagues and helped Trinidad and Tobago get into the world cup finals. Manchester and Tobago are far more different than England and Germany yet I'm sure the T&T crowd don't care as I'm sure the manc bloke (can't remember his name) doesn't either as he's going to beplaying in a world cup against England!! Fair feckin play to him I say. As a paddy I can'y say anything as we'll take any scrag leftovers from England to fatten out our team. Does Jimmy Bullard not have any Irish in him? He looks like a knacker!
Knox_Harrington Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 More importantly does he have any Scouse in him? I'd have him at Anfield.
