Reading Bascombe in last nights Echo, and Rafa's comments yesterday, it's only just sinking in what a week we've been through.

I think we're so atuned to big dramas at the club being played out in the media, that if they're treated as low key, we don't get as excited.

I think there were two big stories that the media largely missed, or at least missed the emphasis on :

1) Rafa nearly (effectively) quit the club.

2) LFC have virtually announced that long awaited 'lottery' win, and will be buying really really big this summer.

We may come to see this week as a key turning point in the club's modern history.

1) Possibly although i think Rafa is a winner and wanted to make sure the club matched his ambition. Rafa is a great tactican and im sure used the media to get what he wanted.

2) I hope this is correct as we do need a cash injection, however to shout it from the rooftops that we suddenly have cash will lead to inflated prices.

Is it too late to sack anyone?

Oh my aching sides.

1) Agreed.

2) Agreed, however, I think we overplay this one. If and when Liverpool announce an investment deal it isn't going to take a rocket scientist to work out that we'll have a few bob to spend on players.

How do you nearly effectively quit?

And I'm not sure either word is accurate to be honest. He admitted Real made contact. He turned them down. Not quite the actions of a man with one foot out the door

Will you be as free with your praise for 'Pinky & Perky' as you have been in damning them now they have done what they have been promising?

According to some other forums we've already spent the money.

2 big games coming up, the club has to focus on them although it would be nice to see the uncertainty removed over so many behind the scenes issues.

I'm sure if the investment is secured it will be announced only after we've secured the names we want...

""If we finish second it will be good for confidence, but then the season will end and it will be different next time, certainly financially."

I like that quote

that's my phrase, and the answer is no

a bit like if Nando is clean through on goal 5 times in a cup final, misses the first 4 but the last one he scuffs, it hits the goalie and rebounds back off Nando and into the net

If, when the details are revealed, it shows a job well done then I'll be fulsome in my praise I assure you. If your implying that the fact of getting investment, at all, vindicates the job 'pinky and perky' are doing, in itself, I would say you were wrong. I will retain my conviction that Moores is an unintelligent man and a weak leader, and that Rick Parry lacks real dynamism and 'killer' instinct.

However, I'll be far more interested in the ramifactions for the future of the club and enjoying the prospect of seeing Rafa being able to work to his full potential. I look forward to the day when what the men in suits are doing is the last thing on the mind.

I am convinced by what Bascombe has written and other information I've had. We were close to losing Rafa.

but if the score at the time is 0-0, and that Nando goal wins us the cup no one, and I mean NO ONE, would be moaning

Yes, and Allah be praised for that.

My only point was, that it was a momentous story, that the main stream press missed the emphasis of. Is all.

but which other CEO or Chairman in the premier league has secured the level of investment that we require? i dont think anyone has. if "Pinky and Perky" as you like to call them went down the road of virtually every other club and borrowed heavily to buy players or build a new stadium, would that make you happier?

I think you already know the answer: we wanted them to dig deep or feck off - and of course it's their perrogative not to

this was never about 'right or wrong' in my eyes - no moral highground; I was just worried about the lack of action and the very real threat that Rafa would leave

doubtless people will continue to argue that there was never any chance of that happening - let them

Kennedy was also killed by a magic bullet don't you know?

let's move on: how much are we getting and where has it come from? who knows the answer to that?

I wish people would stop saying that. In what fantasy world can you keep £80+million out of the papers

Both totally overplayed. We haven't announced ANY investment and Rafa wasn't effectively close to quitting the club.

We are one of the top 3 or 4 brands in world football, have one of the largest turnovers, an enourmous world wide fan base, are the most successful British team of all time, and the current European Champions.

I'd say all that gave us a cache that a few other teams don't have.

Meanwhile back at the thread : it's been a helluva a week huh ?

Au contraire dear Rushian. You're wrong. He wasn't far away from being tempted, make no mistake about it.

As for the investment : I choose to believe Bascombe. Do you have evidence to the contrary ? I note Rafa's comment yesterday 'next season will be completely different. Especially financially.'

What can it all mean ?

I wish people would stop saying that. In what fantasy world can you keep £80+million out of the papers

Agreed.

Moores may not be as intelligent as we would like but he is smart enough to put Rick Parry in charge and ensures he runs the club with the clubs traditions at (or at least near) the forefront.

IMHO our greatest asset is the fact we support our managers long term, with substantial funds and most importantly complete faith. We have Rafa because of this and we will always be top of any aspiring managers list because of this.

So if Moores is stupid, so be it, We are still run better than most, if not all (long term in particular).
