Djibril Cisseee!

its no wonder why Djibril was hyped up so much... & why we paid 14mil for him... seemed justified @ the time...

really though, we need to play him upfront w/ Fowler (for a good stretch of games) & NOT out on the right if we stand any chance of seeing the Auxerre Cisse emulated.

Cisse was a good player in a poor league.

I must admit when i first knew we were interested in him i checked out the goals he had scored and i thought we were signing a top player. The problem has been the step up in class. The premiership defenders are better then you will find in the French league and Cisse is struggling with them.

Cheyrou looked good in the French league. Enough said.

but what happened to the nice first touch and accurate shooting, cant all be blamed on the poor french leauge, creates enough world class players for its so called poor quality better than england manages.

What's happened to Cisse?

Confidence.

In a word.

Those images show an assurance of touch that he has not shown in the Premiership but they do show that he has a good touch. This is not reliant on how fast the French forwards close him down or how ruggedly he is tackled. Certainly the Premiership is a tighter regime but some of the action showing him taking the ball round the keeper, for example, rather than trying to blast a hole through his body betray a quickness of feet. Form is temporary and class is permanent.

Cisse is a class player but he is also a confidence player. He has had a tough time of it since he arrived at Liverpool. He was bought by Houllier and uncertain of how he was valued by Benitez. He received an horrendous injury that sidelined him for most of a season. That it was not a full year and longer is a tribute to his determination and guts.

Cisse, invariably, has been given bit parts as he called on as substitute with only minutes to go when Liverpool have been chasing a result. Invariably, too, he is stuck out on the wing, out of position.

He has had to stand by and watch two players (one in midfield, one in attack) get full game after full game while the manager allowed them to play through a period of poor form that lasted for months on end. It has more or less succeeded with one but not the other.

Cisse is frustrating. Cisse is maddening. Cisse is also a class player in need of an even break.

There's a lot in your post I agree with but I don't think you've told the whole story. You've missed out those times when Cisse has given up on half chances, moaned at team mates for not supplying a perfect pass or let his shoulders drop following a bad decision or miss.

Other players have failed to play to their potential but they've not allowed their effort, work rate or teamwork be affected. That Cisse has is the biggest mark against him as a Liverpool player.

It's frustrating to see these clips and know there's a fine player waiting to rediscover his touch. It's far more frustrating to watch him on the field letting the team down through a lack of discipline.

Some of the defending there is comical

yeah, agree...but look at some of the finishing.

I think the lad goes into games not expecting to score whereas from those clips he was simply the focus of the whole attack and thrived on the expectancy.

and its also very easy to make a two minute compliation of several years worth of play. you could probabaly cobble something together that would look just as spectacular from his time in the Red shirt.

none of that excuses poor attuitude

its a myth he has poor attitude , just internet forum branding

Hes always stated his desire to play for liverpool over and over and genuinley seems happy when the team scores

hes just frustrated, which he has a right to be

no it isnt...it is based on what I see in front of my own eyes

The amount of times he could chase down defenders and he stops

the amount of times he could attempt to latch on to through balls but he makes no attempt, yet he can put the defender / goal keeper under pressure

Dont patronise me by saying I make my mind up based on the internet because it simply isnt true....

That is from day 1 in a Liverpool shirt, I can count on the fingers of my hands the number of times he has shown the desire required to play for us........Slapping your team mate on the back, and screaming into the air to show frustration are one thing...not chasing defenders down and giving up too easy are another

Plus, actually, he isnt that good......

He has got a poor attitude. When a team mate fails to see him or fails to pass to him, he screams at them and throws his head back like he's mortally offended. When his team mates (who don't pass to him as they have no confidence in him) have no option and DO pass to him and he, once again, fails to beat the first man or shoots woefully wide, he wouldn't stand for the treatment from them he dishes out so readily himself. That IS a poor attitude and that's no myth, Mythter.

'To expand your aguement - at Auxerre they played to Cisse's strengths - here we dont !'

You're totally right.

All our play now is focussed on getting the ball down the wings and crossing it into the box. Djib ain't a header of the ball really, he likes the Michael Owen-style over the top ball.

Also, the way we defend with EVERYONE back also doesn't help Djib, who I'm sure in other teams would be told to stand on the half way line and chase the goakeeper's kick like a motherforker.

That's why I can sympathise more with Cissé than Morientes, because for a man who has supposedly scored half of his goals with his head, he has no excuse for not scoring with our style of play that is FOR him and Crouch.

This coming from a poor league stuff is just utter crap.

Shevchenko and many others originated in what you therefore describe as poorer leagues. Don't buy it one bit.

He has immense qualities and ability. Sadly, I dont think we'll ever see the real Cisse at Liverpool and that is a crying shame because he's got the lot.

Sorry but I fail to see anything in Cisse that makes me think he's got immense ability - as a sprinter maybe but not a footballer and certainly not at Premiership standard. His lack of intelligence as a footballer amazes me, stories that filter back from Melwood back that up.

Undoubtedly the poorest player we've spent big money on ever.

Broke his leg and is still trying to get back mentally. At the same time feels Rafa has lost confidence in him so he tries that little extra to try to show Rafa that he should play. Which always fails.

He'll be a success in another team next season. And people will moan on here for why we let him go.

We havent seen Cisse with a regular run of games like other strikers at the club.

Give him a run of 7/8 games then lets judge him.

Did anyone else see the eay he celebrated for Nandos goal ..he loves the club and has great enthusiasm.

I think he can still offer us something i really do, granted hes not world class but still feel he can cut it with us just give him a run please Rafa then lets see what he has to offer.

People hammer Houllier with the benefit of hindsight but having watched a lot of Cisse at Auxerre I thought he looked a tremendous talent and made for the Premiership. Hasn't worked out for reasons I'm unsure of, but he's still young and would be worth a gamble by a future club. (think he'd do well at Newcastle)

there`s no doubt in my mind he deserves a run of games, ok, he played terribly against manure in old toilet, but thats 1 game, that stocking Morientes has been playing crap for about 4 months now, and he still gets the nod

id rather know for sure that Cisse wont workout, then constantly wondering

i guarantee he`ll come back to haunt us

Spot on.

Cisse misses Kapo and Lacheur looking at that.

The only time Cisse could legitimately complain was at the start of the season. He should have been picked then Since then even though Mori has been awful he has been worse when given a chance.
