Jezzman Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I've heard his name being mentioned a few times the last days by friends, but don't know whether the rumours are for real or not.... anyone in the know who wants to share what they know? Are we going for him this Summer?
ricflairandy Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I've heard his name being mentioned a few times the last days by friends, but don't know whether the rumours are for real or not.... anyone in the know who wants to share what they know? Are we going for him this Summer? Its all come about because he was asked about moving. He then went on to say that he wanted to be at athletico for life, cant see himself moving. He was then asked if anyone had bid for him that he knew of, he said yes newcastle. This is from 6 months ago when newcastl where desprate for someone and not sure they where getting owen, so they started bididng for everyone and anyone. Was never serious and never will be.
Internationinteroperability Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 He only has six months left on his current contract, right?
Guest Les Howard Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I've heard his name being mentioned a few times the last days by friends, but don't know whether the rumours are for real or not.... anyone in the know who wants to share what they know? Are we going for him this Summer? According to our friends next door - he's one of Rafa's 'major' signings for next season, along with Kuyt. (no knockers please)I've seen a fair few games when FT has been playing on Spanish footy on sky and I have to say he hasn't impressed me too much.
CarraLegend Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 He only has six months left on his current contract, right? If only.

Guest Red Mist Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I've seen him a few times for Spain, he's okay but not worth the hype. £6M is the max we should bid. Or £10M+Cisse.
Guest Les Howard Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Yeah but you said that about Morientes What? That Morientes is crap? He is mate. Torres is better - but don't believe the hype.
Bjarkinn Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I've seen him a few times for Spain, he's okay but not worth the hype. £6M is the max we should bid. Or £10M+Cisse. 6millions are you crazy, he's not that bad. We paid 7 for crouch and 14 for Cisse than torres must be at least 28m because he is 2 times better than cisse
Tetti Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 yes Sells more shirts, hence raises more revenue eh?
Clay Davis Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 tremendous raw talent but finding it hard to push on in a mid-table club. think a move of around 10 mill would be wise, going beyond that is a bit of a gamble. i'd be for the signing but its not without its risks.
Ombudsam Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Sells more shirts, hence raises more revenue eh? whatever. I was just thinking of him as my new screensaver *swoon*
Ombudsam Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 More lately he has been saying that he may have to move to play on a bigger stage etc - no indication at all that we would be his choice if in fact we were after him in the first place, check his website out after istanbul. He's practically begging for us
Lee W Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Every time I've seen him play (about 6-7 times) he's stunk the place out. Can't see him adapting to the physical nature of the English League either. Just another Joaquin, and suitably overpriced to boot.
Barnesy_10 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 from Fridays gossip Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle could bid for Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres in the summer, but the Spanish international wants to remain at the club he has always supported (Guardian).
Scally the Wag Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Can't be a real quote, Grauniad is spelt correctly.
tag Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Luis Garcia, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Morientes, Fernando Torres and Enrique Iglesias. Think of the commercial benefits. no pepe???
crisps Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 (edited) I think he;d benefit from a move away, might be wrong but I'm sure Villa and Eto'o hardly were prolific at zaragoza and mallorca (think they were about 10 goal a season strikers there)... now look at them Edited March 17, 2006 by mikeyj
Dog Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Rafael Benitez has stated that if money was no object, Torres would be his first signing and Torres has publicly stated his admiration of LFC. Torres is a close pal of Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia who is supposed to have spoken with him about a move to Liverpool. The price is liable to be about £12m but could be much higher dependant on other clubs interest.

Torres said he is close with xabi, xabi is his idol. He speaks on the phone to him all the time. He never ever mentions eh would like to move to liverpool. He mentions he likes the club, but at the same time says he doesnt want to move from athletico as part of him doesnt know if he would succeed at a higher level.

I think thats less to do with him and more to do with him being there only saleable asset. Anyway, as ive said earlier. The quotes are refering to frantic last min interest from newcastle whilst they where waitng on owen.
