5InIstanbul Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Remember in January, the Insurance chap looking at terms on a striker? Well, he had just been told that terms will be requested again for the same player "prior to Germany" Also, they will be asked to place a further two, again prior to Germany. No more info than that. I did say at the end of Jan, from the odd comment, I thought the first was Kuyt; but that's only and educated guess, no more. As for the other two? No idea, but he doesn't deal with the run of the mill stuff so perhaps we are making moves early doors? Just thought I'd pass it on so you can tear a strip of me for creating another frenzy and bringing nothing concrete to the table whatsoever.....

G Richards Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 If we can get Kuyt and Defoe that would do for me as regards strikers.
monkey puzzle Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I've also heard some stuff about Kuyt that is slightly above the usual transfer speculation. I'd be majorly surprised if there wasn't a concrete bid for him this summer.
Lee W Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 If we can get Kuyt and Defoe that would do for me as regards strikers. Ditto.
Gravy Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Is it just me who doesn't really rate Defoe? He certainly couldn't hold a candle to Owen.
Kahnee Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Here we go, GEH007 creating another frenzy and bringing nothing concrete to the table whatsoever.....
cymrococh Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I suspect it's more likely to be Kuyt than Defoe. Getting it done before the World Cup where he could suddenly jump about £3-4million in value. Defoe is unlikely to feature much in the World Cup.

Lee W Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 (edited) Is it just me who doesn't really rate Defoe? He certainly couldn't hold a candle to Owen. Not many can, but we're hardly in a position to quibble at the moment. I would say in Defoe's favour that he is extremely narrow-minded near goal and his scoring rate (a league goal every 1.96 games - from starts anyway) is good enough. If we can't get Owen, Defoe is about the only realistic and proven English alternative. Edited March 15, 2006 by Lee W

jimmylibel Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 i heard that we had talks with Feyenoord and Kuyts people three weeks ago but Defoe wouldnt surprise me if Owen is a no no Why is it suddenly being suggested that Owen is a no no? Given the figures being bandied about for Defoe if we can't get Owen then I'd go for Ronaldo.
Kahnee Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Why is it suddenly being suggested that Owen is a no no? Given the figures being bandied about for Defoe if we can't get Owen then I'd go for Ronaldo. Defoe would be cheaper in terms of both salary and fee, and wouldn't need at least six months to adapt to the Prem
psl Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Why would Feyenoord agree to a deal earlier when they could get more money for him if he has a great World Cup? I know it happens but fail to see an advantage to them short of getting things sorted early and giving themseves maximum time to get a replacement.
Tones Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 If we can get Kuyt and Defoe that would do for me as regards strikers. Id be happy with that

5InIstanbul Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 I'm basing this on nothing but instinct. I've a sneaky feeling we are going for it this summer. If my mates talking about 3 sizeable deals, then I'm going for Kuyt, Owen and a right midfielder of unknown identity. Something tells me we wont be fecking about this summer. Maybe the board feel its needed to hang on to Rafa. I think it is personally. We need to back him to the hilt and I think we will this summer.

I know it happens but fail to see an advantage to them short of getting things sorted early and giving themseves maximum time to get a replacement.maybe dudek will go back to his old stomping ground as part of any deal.
Ian Garro Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Is it just me who doesn't really rate Defoe? He certainly couldn't hold a candle to Owen. No, it's not just you. I think Owen is ten times the player Defoe ever will be.
jimmylibel Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Defoe would be cheaper in terms of both salary and fee, and wouldn't need at least six months to adapt to the Prem Salary certainly, but I'm not too sure on the fee. Rumours are that Ronaldo is available for £10million while the rumoured price for Defoe was £12million. I doubt Ronaldo would ever adapt to the Premiership as such but he'll still bang the goals in in the meantime. I can see why Defoe would be the sensible signing, I just think he's overvalued and overrated. However Owen would still be my first choice in the 'poacher' role.
Rushian Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 cue a 20 page thread based on the revelation "we might sign three players this summer" .... ... and in breaking news iceberg sinks Titanic.
Kahnee Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 ... and in breaking news iceberg sinks Titanic. WTF??? They said it was unsinkable
Knox_Harrington Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I can see why Defoe would be the sensible signing, I just think he's overvalued and overrated. Agree Jimmy but the talk has been that Spurs retain a long standing interest in Cisse (God knows why) and therefore the price in cash drops. Don't rate him at all myself.
