Back 3: Agger , Carra, Paletta (back-up: Hyypiaa and eh... Traore)

Mid 5: a speedy guy, Stevie, Momo, Alonso, Gonzales (back up Riise, Zenden, Kewell)

Front 2: Owen/Kuyt, anyone who can score on a regular basis (back up Garcia, and a couple of feckers that can score)

If I remember correctly, we played this under Evans (Ruddock, Scales, Babb) and discarded it after a couple of years. Anyone think that we might succeed this time.

And I'm sorry for doing yet another formation tread, but I don't aim to please :bleh:

In some games we could play it but i'd rather play 442 the majority of the time.

So let's drop Finnan, our most consistant defender this season, and play a new system with two players at the back that are unproven in the Premiership. Added to the fact that we have one of the best defensive records in the league I really don't see the benefit.

It seems Rafa's now convinced himself a hot flanking 442 is the way to go in this country. Gonzalez put in some right cracking crosses for Sociedad at the weekend - the boy can move and cross with either foot - the Deportivo were reduced to trying to kick lumps out of him.

Some of our stuff under Evans was really nice but yeah our defence was poop towards the end. Don't play 352 it leaves you exposed down the flanks either that or you end up with 5 back there.

Can I just say how sorry and dissapointed I am you didn't take up my suggestion for a name change, to wit : Total Wa*ker? ;)

With the number of CB's currently in the squad, the plan could be to use 3 at the back to a larger extent. Finnan, he'll find his place, no worries about that. But as said above, this might be an instrument to kill off weaker teams on our turf

This may be why Rafa has been buying up centre backs like Kate Moss with her coke dealer.

kate moss buys centre-backs off her coke dealer? or we've signed kate moss and her coke dealer?

It's a system we will use as and when. He has no history of playing this as his main defensive system, and has done an immense amount of work tightening the flat back 4 system.

It will remain an option for certain games and certain situations when tactics demand it, but 4-4-2 or variations on that theme will continue to be our meat and drink/bread and butter/whatever food based metaphor suggests a standard way of doing things.
