Bootle Buck Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 We have never had pacy full backs in years. Our midfielders can pass the ball sideways but none apart from Gerrard have the ability to run at people. Our forward line has to be the slowest in the league. When you look at our squad most of our players are lacking in pace.In order to compete we need to change our style of play next season and bring in some faster and more creative players so we can break teams down and supply our forwards with dcent balls.
4411 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Kewell should be up there with Stevie but he rarely runs at defenders these days. Hopefully we'll get Bellamy and Owen or Defoe along with SWP, that wouldnt be too shabby considering "Speedy" Gonzalez will also finally arrive.

He seems to lay the ball off more than anything else.
Romario Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I think Gerrard and Sissoko are fast enough for the middle. Also Gonzalez and Kewell will have enough pace. For me it's up front and I'll just wait and see what happens in the summer because there is nothing we can do until then I guess.I'm still peed off though. Lots of us were a little shocked when Baros left and Owen didn't show up leaving us all worried about pace up front if anything happened to Cisse. Cisse now doesn't ever start and Pongo (only other forward with pace) is loaned out.I thought that Rafa had some mad plan that doesn't require pace up front but I'm getting the feeling he did his sums wrong on this onebig time.
alias75 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I thought that Rafa had some mad plan that doesn't require pace up front but I'm getting the feeling he did his sums wrong on this onebig time. I think the plan involved our strikers actually putting the ball in the net on the odd occassion. Pace is important in this league for sure, but if you dont have it you need to be a clinical finisher. Van horse face isnt very quick yet hes very prolific in front of goal. We've cretaed the chances in most games for our forwards and they havent been good enough. I dont care who we sign to replace them as long as they put the ball in the back of the net consistently. That is after all a huge part of a strikers job.
Guz Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Our defenders should try and remember what it's like to pass a ball along the grass. It's a lovely feeling, believe me. Sending 40-50yard long balls at Crouch or Morientes just because he's a beanpole isn't the answer.
oakie bob Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Our club should remember not to play on the 15th April
FakeNewsBear Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 http://www.ynwa.tv/forum/index.php?showtopic=91218 thank you 96
Kahnee Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 why wasnt agger even on the bench? Because we had defensive cover in Traore (who effectively provides cover for the whole back four)
stressederic Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Oh yeah, he's the answer What was the question? Because we had defensive cover in Traore (who effectively provides cover for the whole back four) Is it wrong that this thought causes me abject terror?
Clay Davis Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 we definitely need a fast striker that can also finish. *cough* Defoe *cough* tell you what, if possible, I'd sign Kuijt and Defoe and try damn hard to get a right winger in the same league as SWP and Simao if not one of them. With Speedy also arriving I think we'll have a lot more pace, creativity and firepower. If only it was that easy huh?
Elisha_Scott Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I agree with that, I would love to get a couple of pacy forwards ( Bent, Defoe, Owen, DJ Campbell -joke) and try and get SWP too. Front 6 of Gonzalez, SWP, SG, Xabi, Owen and Bent would create plenty I think.
Ombudsam Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Oh yeah, he's the answer I know. Why would anyone suggest buying him. He's a proper mentalist c*nt. Doesn't score as many goals as he should either. One of those players like phillips who should be better than he is I agree with that, I would love to get a couple of pacy forwards ( Bent, Defoe, Owen, DJ Campbell -joke) and try and get SWP too. Front 6 of Gonzalez, SWP, SG, Xabi, Owen and Bent would create plenty I think. As much as i get pissed off with the "but he holds the ball and that's enough" line, I think you've gone too far the other way there because we're so impoverished with goalscorers
