Let's just hope it doesn't take us until the last day of the transfer wndow to offload those players, leaving us running around like headless chickens trying to finalise incoming transfers within twenty four hours.

One other thing: why do people persist in linking SWP with us? Why on earth would Chelsea sell him to us?

i think you may have hit the nail on eth haed there. i was thinking about this last night, and i reckon we coudl have as much as £40 mil to spend. certainly enough for two scoring forwards, and a right winger with a bit of pace and the ability to get the ball in the box. plus a few squad players. £40 mil should be enough to secure the services of Kuyt, TheReal Ronaldo, SWP and have enough to spare to bulk the squad up

Hopefully, the squad players will be the likes of Barragan, Paletta, Roque, Antwi, Anderson etc....

Thing is - 40m or no 40m - whoever we sign it will take forever and end up with us paying more than we needed to, because thats just what we do.

rafa must have his genius bulb on at full flow all summerto be able to address the team s defecincies, e.g. he must try to exploit Nando s reputation in Spain and try a part-exchange deal, plus cash for a Villa for e.g.

same goes for cisse in France.

dude will fetch a relatively good price and hope for the best for the others..

If we buy Ronaldo the squad will be well bulked up.

...given the players we could (should) sell, getting Rafa a kitty of 30m doesn't look a tall order.

We probably will sell Cisse, Morientes, Dudek, Pongolle, Kirkland, Cheyrou, Diao, Traore, Mellor, Potter, and could offload Garcia too. That lot would fetch over 20m, surely ?

That only leaves £10m to raise. Doesn't seem a stretch. With a bit of imagination the board might find Rafa 20m, to add to the 20m from the sales. We could do some damage armed with 40m in the transfer market.......Ronaldo, Owen, SWP.....a Championship Manager's dream of a summer. :D

Diao and Cheyrou are out of contract thank God so they're off for notbhing apart from saved wages, which will be a few million quid.

Mellor and Potter might fetch £.5M between them, Dudek £1-2M, kirkland £2M, Garcia £5M, Morientes £3M, Cisse £6M if we're lucky.

The plus point is that if all 11 left we would only need to bring in 4 or 5 players to replace them at the most.

We're sorted for keepers with Carson as back up, we need another left back hopefully the Valencia lad on a free, 2 strikers and a RW and we're done.

Whatever happens we are in the situation where we'll need to shift a number of players in order to buy just the one or two. So many of the people we will be looking to shift are nowhere near the stock value of what we signed them for.

Kirkland and Dudek are two examples of this. The only hope is that they go to places where their perceived value is much higher than what they have actually proven in the PL.

Present me with one in that situation and I will eat it

No way is Garcia going this summer

I don't think Garcia will go either, but if he does, i'll even throw in a tooth pick for the sweet corn.

I wouldn't have thought so a few weeks back, bit now I'm far from confident he'll stay. With a high profile right winger coming in, and Gonzalez, that's two more players for Garcia type positions.

It depends how much Rafa needs the money, because I think we'd get a good £5m for Luis, whom is a player I don't think Benitez regards as a 'first name on a team-sheet' type, anymore.

I think we're all fooling ourselves if anyone thinks we'll get more than 12-13 million for the initial list. Other teams will call our bluff(s) and take most of the players for nominal fees. Who the f*ck is going to pay 3 million for Morientes when a) we're desperate to get rid of, and b) he's not exactly proving to be a good striker with age.

We're going to have to pick up some (Spanish?) freebies in the summer to replace a few players. One of Traore/Warnock should also be shown the door and a freebie brought in for replacement.

Don't forget though it is a World Cup year so any deals could well be blighted/delayed and any half decent performance or goal in one game will sky the price. Suddenly 30Mil might not go that far.

Garcia is one of the last players we should be getting rid of.

Sell Mellor, Pongolle, Crouch, Cisse plus the one's you mentioned and start afresh in the summer.

Buy 4 strikers who all bring something different to the table and who compliment each others game. We know Victor and Aurelio are available on free transfer if we need to beef up left back and right wing.

Forget Owen, he had a chance to stay and a chance to come back. then pick your 4.

Funds will be a problem because even our squad players are on too much per month. If a player leaves Liverpool then they will have to take a pay cut, which is then evened out by asking for a lesser fee or even going on a free. The player will then be paid off the rest of his contract.

Liverpool cannot afford to do this which is why many players mentioned above will still on the clubs books and on loan next season. Liverpool will let the contracts wind down so the final outlay is minimal.

Unless we get investment this will go on for at least another two seasons. Rafa will continue to buy the players that he has in the hope that one of them comes good, that is saying if Rafa will still be here after two seasons.

My take on the range of values of the offload list :

Cisse £5-7m

Morientes £2-3m

Pongolle £2.5-3.5m

Garcia £4.5-6.5m

Dudek £0.5-1m

Kirkland £2-3m

Warnock £2-3m

Traore £1-2m

Mellor, Potter & other makeweights £2-3m

So, that's a total range of £19.5m - £29m.

At the bottom end of the scale all those players are relative bargains and we would find takers (regardless of wage issues). The upper end is achievable, but it depends on how competitive the market gets this summer.

Even if we take Garcia out of the euation that's till a range of £15-22.5m, with the lower figure being easily achievable. Anyway it's looked at we have 'assets' there that can strengthen Rafa's transfer hand.

In terms of squad strength it should be remembered that although quite a few of those listed above aren't with us anyway (out on loans), whislt the squad for next season has already been swelled by the confirmed arrivals of Agger, Palletta and Gonzalez.

The bulk of 30m could, theoretically be spent on just 3 players, with a couple of additional free transfer gambles.

I think Rafa's incoming hit list looks like this :

Right wing :

1st choice : SWP

2nd Choice : Simao

Quick striker :

1st choice : Owen

2nd Choice : defoe

2nd Striker :

1stv choice : Kuyt

2nd choice Ronaldo

If Garcia is sold this summer I will eat whatever hat you would like to place in front of me

What happens if he has a storming World Cup and suddenly we're talking about £10-12m?

I can see Rafa taking that.

because sooner or later he's going to get pissed off with playing fourth fiddle to players he's better than.

left back?

this fabio aurelio on a bosman link seems to have something to it./

I?m concerned about timing as much as anything. We?re talking about doing a lot of deals here, many of which won?t be able to be done (or at least finalised) until after the World Cup. Could end up running out of time to do everything we want before the transfer window closes.

We will not have any money to buy players that shine at the World Cup anyway.

which is why i think that we'll have the majority of our business done before the world cup inflates any values. kuijt for example could have a great world cup and double his valuation.

Never mind the World Cup, what use will he be once wind is ended?
