Defenders diving now to prevent getting fouls against

It seems a new trend is brewing.

Terry did it when he tried to stop Ronny just before he scored, and I just saw Salgado do it against Mista now.

 

I am talking about defenders bodychecking attackers and then going down themselves as to avoid a foul being called.

 

Terry went in hard on Ronny, but Ronny skipped by him. Terry though went down like a sack making sure the ref didn't give a free kick.

 

Salgado rushed in and took out Mista, who made a meal out of it, and then fearing the consequences threw himself down as to pretend it was a "collision" or something.

 

Haven't really noticed this before now.

 

Anyone else seen this?

Is it just a recent thing?
