Most underrated Liverpool player ever?

We missed Sami on Wednesday night that was obvious, look at Istanbul the difference Didi made when he came on. Both are very underrated players. But who is Liverpool's all time underrated player? Ronnie Whelan, maybe Steve Nicol to name a few. Who you would you say is?

Sami has been an absoutely fantastic player for us, but I don't feel he's been underrated. Think he's received the recognition he deserves. Think the same can be said about Hamann as well.

Henchoz was another great servant I think, who perhaps didn't get that much recognition, one of the reasons may be that he starred alongside another class player who perhaps didn't play that much better but were 'easier' to spot in the games through his dominance in the air and such.

Carra's finally seems to get the plaudits he deserves as well. He's been superb for years now and vital to the team.

Not sure he was underrated but Rob Jones was a really decent right-back for us for years. If it weren't for the injuries he'd had loads of England caps.

Going back to the 70s and 80s and underrated players, the arl fellas are better off giving their views regarding this topic. :D

So many names, but one that comes to mind is Kevin McDonald.

He kept McMahon on the bench in the double winning year for the Cup Final and deservedly so, he had an outstanding end to the season.

Sorry but thats revisionism Kev

McMahon picked up an injury and was struggling towards the end of the 86 season

Mcdonald played out of necessity and was distinctly average

No it's not, he kept him out. I remember writing to the Echo saying that McDonald deserved to keep his place ahead of McMahon.

McMahon wasnt fit in the run in....he came back into the team just before the final but was nowhere near ready...if McMahon had been properly fit he would have played...he had to take a place on the bench...An indication of how unfot he was was that regardless of the conditions he wasnt used,,
