CCNA, best way to do it

Got to up date my MCSE first, but looking to start towards the end of the year. Any Cisco experts out there? Reckon I can do it with the Cisco self study books and the emulator or will I need a course? They say 280 hours, but I am not a novice so is 6 months a reasonable time frame? (I will have access to routers and PIXs at work) Any advice? Cheers
