Elisha_Scott Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Prepare for some hideous news regarding Chelsea's incoming for next season.Ballack is done and for the first time they will have a world class forward in the team, although he tends to miss the odd penalty in the Champions League
Raj Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Prepare for some hideous news regarding Chelsea's incoming for next season.Ballack is done and for the first time they will have a world class forward in the team, although he tends to miss the odd penalty in the Champions League so its safe to assume that you mean shevchenko.i presume they're including crespo in the deal, which would make sense. anyone know how old shevchenko is now? 29? 30? still leaves them with a problem of who to drop in midfield....
McBain Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 still leaves them with a problem of who to drop in midfield.... As problems go, that's not exactly a bad one
Raj Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 (edited) As problems go, that's not exactly a bad one thats fair, but unless he's going to change tactics, i cant really see how lampard and ballack would function together.ballack is a better player than lampard (imo), and he takes up the same positions as lampard. would essien miss out? in some games possibly, but they would lose a certain amount of solidity in the centre. It would put a hell of a lot of pressure on Makelele. not to mention the knock on effect it would have on the morale of the squad. where would gudjohnsen fit in? would he be happy with the reduction in games he would play? His form dips can be quite staggering, as the last two or three games for Bayern have shown, and he did a almost perfect Scholes-type disappearing act in the friendly against Italy last week. Stevie H Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 i'm fast losing interest in league football, their bankroll is making an absolute mockery of it.
Bailo Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 What's in it for Milan? Losing their talisman for the last few years (I know Maldini will quibble that) to a now rival for the CL? Sounds stupid but is it the Russian/Ukraine connection? There have always been rumours about the people behind Shevchenko being....erm....very nice people! Surely it's going to be a new world record deal as well?
John am Rhein Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Though Schevchenko is pure class and a reason to worry, I don't know whether it's worth getting worried about Ballack too much. He's not much better - if at all - than what they've already got IMO. Exactly. Ballack is overrated because he's German. He's a good player but I don't think he'll be much more consistently effective for Chelsea than Veron was for Man United. He'll make a difference in European games such as the one they had the other night, though. Shevchenko on the other hand is just about as good as it gets.
Mevster Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Oh man, thats not good news. Elisha, if you dont mind me asking what do you make of all this rafa leaving news and what do the players think / know? i wonder if rafa would ever think "feck it, chelseas just have too much money for it to be even nearly a level playing field, i might as well go to a different league"? im sure he wont, he took on barca and real in similar circumstances but blimey, its somewhat demoralising
matty Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Gutted if true, i really like Sheva have admired him since his Kiev days a great, great player. Now i will have to think of him as an over rated, cheating, c*** Yes, but he's that too...
Coyler Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 p*******s. Used to admire both of those pricks as well.
Roscoe Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 damnation, shevchenko is a player I have admired for a long time. I will now have to reassess. he will be devastating in that team. it really does seem like second place is all anyone else can hope for in the near future. a blight on the game they are.
CarraLegend Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 What's in it for Milan? Probably about 50 or 60m for someone who'll be 30 not long after next season starts.
anny road Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 they may well have the same problem that Madrid have had collecting players is one thing, making it work is another
Coyler Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 they may well have the same problem that Madrid have had collecting players is one thing, making it work is anotherI could see maybe a small problem with Ballack and Lampard in that regard (presuming Lampard stays ), but feck me putting Shevchenko up top is fairly scary and to my untutored eye requires no great accommodating changes. But I hope that that is the route they go down, it'd be a class case of not learning the mistakes of the past or ignoring them through hubris. Happy days.
John am Rhein Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 how long before some hero in the making nutter with a machine gun reaches cracking point and blows the chelsea squad away? Did you just 'give the order'?
IgPig Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Worrying on the face of it as the nearest they have come to signing real world class is probably Crespo and Makalele. The rest, particualrly those signed by Mourinho, have just been decentish players for high fees. Having said that, you never know how these things are going to turn out - especially coming to a league like ours which is a bit different.
fred milne Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 They're both past it. Concentrate on our signings.I'd probably go along with that to a degree.
Earl Hafler Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Ballack and Sheva past it ? Can we please buy some of these ' past it ' players ?! I'd be surprised if it was for as little as £10m, even with Crespo thrown in, as they allegedly made a £50m bid last summer.
Guest Stark Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 p*******s. Used to admire both of those pricks as well. Agree 100%. So can we all stop all this "Sheva" nonsense likes he's our mate. It'll be "Lamps" next before we know it.
KBR Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I hear that Milan are also trying to line up Ronaldo. They already have Kaka, and Cafu, so i'm sure they'll be telling him good things. Either way Milan will get a player capable of replacing Shevchenko, not to mention a huge wod of cash which could go towards strengthening other areas of the team. Don't forget Stam is leaving this season,Maldini i think is retiring(so i was told) Cafu is near the end, so a clear out/ slight re build isn't out of the question. I can easily see Shevchenko leaving.
BG Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I don;t think this is terrible news in some ways. Both are top players but both are on the way down. I can't believe they are the manager's first choices as they don't fit the profile of the players he's signed so far at all. I suspect that he is being put under pressure by the most likable duo in football - Roman and Pete. If that's the case I wouldn;t expect him to hang around that long. I think it would be a surprise if JM did not go suddenly.
Tyler Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 With the cash at their disposal, Chelsea will dominate the league for the forseeable future. Champions League being a knock out competition will be harder for them to win. the thing is though if Ballack and Shevchenko don't work out then they can go and buy somebody else If we bought Ballack and he didn't work out we would be in a very difficult position financially Only hope is that players at Chelsea fall out over wages etc We are clutching at straws. I can imagine the reaction if we were to be reported as being in for these two players
