If we bought Torres, Owen, Defoe, Villa

.... do you think we would start scoring a load of goals or do we need a really good right winger, as well as a striker, to start banging in the goals? Would it be enough just to buy a quality striker??

Edit: the subject line can be misunderstood, I meant if we bought Torres, Owen, Defoe OR Villa.... Not all four of them :D

If the club bought Torres within two weeks he'd have half the forum saying he was sc*ite for missing a sitter and asking for Morientes to be brought back....

Nope, they wouldn't be enough. We fail to fashion enough clear cut opportunities. For instance, a lot of great teams have about 5/6 really good opportunities before scoring, we have about 4 clear cut in a whole game - this is the science of guesstimation. Most of our chances are half-chances. We cross from deep which makes it hard for the striker to attack and easier for the defender to defend. I hope the acquisition of Gonzalez will sort some of this problem out. We also need a right winger, imo, and I'd like to see greater input from our fullbacks on the overlap, Riise scores goals but doesn't get loads of decent crosses in, whereas Finnan can cross but a lot of the time they are from deep.

all i would want is pennant, defoe and a big strong striker who bangs them in someone not too expensive like say zlatan ;)

Can you shed any light as to why torres is so highly rated/valued in the press ? From what I've seen of him (not a great deal admittedly), he seems well overrated, and I just don't think he'd set the premiership alight at all. Villa looks a much better player to me, as does the young fella from betis. Can't say as I'm convinved joaquin would be best option for RW either. pennant or SWP look more consistent to me ?

Zlat'll be the dayyyyyyyyyyyy that I die. I'd love him here but he's not a prolific scorer.

Then you haven't seen enough of him. The man is singlehandedly keeping Atletico at a fairly good spot, and has done for a few years. But yes he will have some s**** days, but that is comming from playing with s**** players.

Zlatan only has 6 league goals this season

I really don't see the obsession with Torres. I just feel he'd come over here and be a massive flop.

Get someone who is established in our league and who you know can score goals.

Against Barca in the Nou Camp Torres looked like a great finisher but he had only 6 league golas up to that point. That was half way in to the season.

Like Yakubu.

Only Henry has scored more goals than him in the last 2 odd years and he's been playing for schit teams. He can hold the ball up, can beat players, has pace and scores goals.

The question is whether the lack of chances is as a result of a lack of creativity in midfield or of intelligent movement further forward. Could well be if we had someone willing to make the runs the midfield could make the passes.

I still think we need a playmaker in midfielder to link the strikers. Joe Cole or Aimar. If neither of those are available Benyouan from West Ham could be a cheaper version. We need someone to take people on and cause problems going forward.

Alonso is the maestro, although Aimar would be amazing. (Joe Cole ? yuk, cretin and a cheat.)

Ideally we need a ball carrier on the right wing like this guy sums up :

I wouldn't agree we don't create enough clear cut chances, it's mostly due to strikers movement (lack thereof). We get plenty of decent crosses in aswell as dead-ducks.We desperately need that Ronaldinho/Maradonna star that just beats people for fun.

Whoa, so what you're saying is that having the best player in the world might help out our team?
