I thought Crouch was working much harder in the early part of the season and really seemed to be a handful in the air and on the ground. Granted he wasn't scoring but in generally he seemed more focused and hungrier. Since he broke his duck he seems to be more interested in looking for the foul and arguing every decision with the referee and it is taking away the effectiveness of his game. For England last week he seemed to have that same focus and determination albeit for a fraction of the game. Maybe Rafa has used him too much this season and he is getting alittle stale. I thought he was really going to cause all kinds of problems last night like he did for Real Betis away but he was much quieter.

I think we are playing a foolishly rediculous amount of long balls to him every game, which we weren't doing as much in our great run upto the new year. It's also hindering Morientes as well imo but thats a different story. His best work around the box comes when we whip an early ball into him or play quick football in and around the box (his chance in the first half that gerrard put on a plate). Same against man city the other week, he was less effective when we booted it long at him but more so when we passing it around effectivley.

I think the opposition are beginning to sort out a method of how to play him

I don't believe he has lost it a bit, but he's still willing. I believe it's the partners around him, Crouch has fantastic control for a big fella', but no one around him to support him (which i believe fowler may be able to provide).

My main moan about Crouch is the relation between his name and the way he jumps. He's one of the tallest players in football, yet when he jumps he crouches down - taking all power away from his header. He also jumps on top of other players, if you're that tall you don't need as much of a lift from other players!

Could be true,

I personally think managers say let him have the ball, and close down the opposition players around him instead of him, and they let him have it from deep because

A) he doesnt have the guile to cut open defences with a through ball

B) supreme dribbling skill to run at defences and open them up

C) you can stand off him from outside the 18 yard box as his long distance shooting is non-existant
