adiman Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 if we're starting champions manager speculation, then i'll put in my tuppence worth for Yakubu
Bootle Buck Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 (edited) Pick any one from each: Big Man up Front - Harewood, Yakubu or Roberts (and at a push Kevin Nolan) Finisher - Owen, Crespo, Kuyt, Bent or Defoe(think he will come good). Edited March 9, 2006 by Bootle Buck
Ombudsam Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 RvN gutted we didn't get Ashton in the summer. Typing it on here was no use i should have sent a letter to rafa

BigBird Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 It would be lunacy to spend £18M on Owen given his history of mid-season injuries. It was something we had to live with after he came through the youth system but to spend that amount on a guaranteed crock will solve nothing. We need a quick striker but Owen, sadly, isn?t the answer.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Bascome, Dave Usher and Elisha Scott on here have all said there is a clause in Owens contract, I see no reason to believe they're all lying.
Bootle Buck Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Personally I don't care as long as it's a lethal goalscorer who won't have to be converted to a right winger within a year.

Dont let that blind you there plenty of ppl on this forum who would by him back in flash and disregard that he is injury prone The Goal scorer we need is Yakubu end of, and for the bergkamp role i would like to see kewell barring that Gudjohnson is the other options names like tevez and co would be great but thats living in fantasy land. No way Nolan is a target man btw! Edited March 9, 2006 by Owen1978
Stevie H Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 i can't believe that people are seriously linking us to jason roberts. surely it hasn't come to this?
Jacko Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Bascome, Dave Usher and Elisha Scott on here have all said there is a clause in Owens contract, I see no reason to believe they're all lying. and that clause is alledgely based around Newcastles (non) qualification for Europe with a figure of £12m being most commonly mooted. You might ask why on Earth Newcastle would have agreed to this.....you'd have to consider that alongside the question of why did they bid more than double the amount that their rivals bid? Pick any one from each: Big Man up Front - Harewood, Yakubu or Roberts (and at a push Kevin Nolan) Finisher - Owen, Crespo, Kuyt, Bent or Defoe(think he will come good). Er Harewood is utter pants, I mean really, absolutely, feckin crap and Nolan is a central midfielder?!?
Owen1978 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 i can't believe that people are seriously linking us to jason roberts. surely it hasn't come to this? He is a decent striker, troubles the defence etc... but they are better players out there, i would have him in front of Cisse, Mori & Crouch though!
harpoon Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 same as I said in July: Kuyt and Villa. We need to keep it on the deck more for those two as well.
Mikael Akerfeldt Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 i can't believe that people are seriously linking us to jason roberts. surely it hasn't come to this? We bought Heskey for £11 million didn't we? Roberts is everything Heskey should be, and would cost only a fraction of the price. Strong, quick, CONFIDENT, decent in front of goal, great attitude. He's proven he can cut it in the premiership. Unlike Morientes and Cisse.
Owen1978 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 same as I said in July: Kuyt and Villa. We need to keep it on the deck more for those two as well. Kuyt maybe but chelsea are apparantly interested and Villa not a chance!
Gilps Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 i can't believe that people are seriously linking us to jason roberts. surely it hasn't come to this? It's really only Bootle Buck, who is barking at the best of times.

Guest Anders Honoré Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 You might ask why on Earth Newcastle would have agreed to this.....you'd have to consider that alongside the question of why did they bid more than double the amount that their rivals bid? The former to get him to sign. The latter so that he had no other options to sign for than Newcastle. It wasn't double the amount either. We bid 12 mio according to Elisha (curiously, the exact same fee in the reputed escape clause), newcastle bid 17 mio.
Leo No.8 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 All I could think last night was Michael Owen. Every time a game goes by when we miss chance after chance, it's always him who comes to mind. If his release is £12m we should pay it without a doubt. Still think we'd need another striker though, one to carry the ball or hold it up. Bojinov would be my first choice of the realistic options in terms of price, with Yakubu and Berbatov interesting alternatives...
Guest Kev Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Don't know who will come in if anyone (:perishthethought:) But we need an Owen/Defoe/Johnson type player. As mentioned before Luca Toni would do for me as well.

As mentioned before Luca Toni would do for me as well. Luca Toni seems to be the new flavour of the month. Why? Granted he's doing well this season but he's not been prolific throughout his career at all. Crouch mark II (he's 6ft 4).
Guest sniffer Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I tell you what, and I'll admit this has just popped into my head, I would love us to get rid of Cisse and Nando, buy Li'l Mickey back (hopefully for a reasonable amount) and sign Jason Roberts for about £2-3 mill (he's 28, so I can't see them asking for more than that). Eerily reminiscent of the Michael and Emile partnership, I know, but Roberts knows how to use his pace and power (he's one of the strongest forwards Ive ever seen), doesnt spend half his time on the floor, and he knows where the back of the net is. Crouch, Flo and Robbie as back up. Whaddyareckon?????? I agree with that but why would we buy Roberts? We turned him down once already.

tomasjj Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Link up role:Gudjohnsen is a great footballer. But we will never get him from Chav.Kuyt could also work in this role.Podolski: Unavailable?Berbatov: an outsider. Pacy/Poacher:Tevez? Unavailable due to Chav connections?Torres? Too expensive? Swap+cash possible?Defoe??? Is he good enough?Villa: Unavailable.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 the bergkamp role the Dalglish role, surely?
