Too many long balls, Gerrard is one of the few players who can move with the ball at his feet. You can make the ball do the running for you at times but you also need to run with the ball too. We have no-one who is capable of that.

Didn't think finnan was that good. Simao was getting crosses in all the time against him.

 

He had no cover from Garcia or Cisse all night in fairness to him. The only player that really put in any effort was Xabi. Gerrard was out of the game for long periods. The others were all below average.

Benfica deserve credit. They did a good job on us. We lost. We're all disappointed. But the fans at the match deserve a lot of credit for backing the team at the death. We will fight another day.

 

It's frustrating becasue deep down most of us believe we should have been able to beat Benfica. But they are through, and as I said above, they did a good job on us. To say they are the level of the likes of Charlton is inaccurate.

That was shameful tonight.

It wasn't "shameful", mate. I've seen shameful performances by Liverpool teams. The performance in Lisbon was closer to "shameful". We went out to a decent side who scored a screamer which turned the game.

Finnan, though I wouldn't swap him for anyone, was not great tonight.

Alonso was fantastic second half, Gerrard great in the first. Carra and Reina also deserve to hold their heads high.
