boohog Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 what did you say? just out of interestpersonally i didn't mind them running the story in the first place, but am pretty annoyed they've completly ignored this Nowt rude: Dear Sir, Following up on your informative article on 1st March regaring Steve Finnan's alleged racist comments to Patrice Evra of Manchester United: http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,1720499,00.html I was wondering when we could expect an equally prominent follow up to the article explaining that the Greater Manchester Police have dropped all charges?http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4779418.stm I am sure you would not want to be seen as a newspaper that does not give a balanced view of things. Yours sincerely,
fred Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 It's now on their website, pretty much in the same place as the original allegations, so pat yourself on the back: looks like your mail worked.
Guy_Incognito Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Well this is there now as of 1.30pm. Finnan cleared of racist taunting Police drop case in wake of video analysis Staff and agenciesTuesday March 7, 2006 Steve Finnan has been cleared of racial abuse. Photograph: Getty. Greater Manchester Police have informed Liverpool they will not be taking any action against Steve Finnan following allegations that he racially abused Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. The incident being investigated followed complaints by lip-readers watching the televised Premiership clash at Old Trafford on January 22. Finnan had just given away a free-kick, which led to Rio Ferdinand's winning goal. Evra did not raise any complaints, although he was aware of the allegations. Article continues -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Liverpool defender vehemently denied the accusations and video evidence sanctioned by the Anfield club supported that view and now the police have dropped the case.A Liverpool spokesman said: "Obviously we welcome the news. Our own analysis of the television footage proved there was no evidence to back up these claims. It's very unfortunate that Steve's good name has been dragged through the mud in the meantime and we are glad this matter has now been resolved."

Nice. it wasn't posted on there until after 2pm though, so they're fibbing a bit on the time. Maybe I'll forgive them. This once.
