Bootle Buck Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Being in the States it is hard to get a feel for how the crowd will be on Wednesday. Are most fans feeling optimistic? Will it be one of those magical European nights at Anfield. I'm sure it will be and the old "12th man" will bring us through.
Leo No.8 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I think it will indeed be a whopper of an atmosphere come Wednesday...
Leo No.8 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 We're 1-0 down in the last 16 of the champions league, with the return in front of The Kop. I don't see any way it could possibly be a poor atmosphere...

I'm very optimistic but I just know they're going to score (Probably a Simao or Robert free kick) so it's going to be tough but (And its a cliche) we're going to t*** someone all over the place soon so i hope its them that get it
Guest Jack Bauer Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Maybe Olympiakos type atmosphere, but no way Chelsa/Juve/Roma.
Barnesy_10 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I think the players must be hoping for one of those atmospheres, it was a pleasure to be a part of the chelsea one and olympiakos one.. I think it will be on a par with Olympiakos personally.. and I see Fowler getting at least 1 goal..
Bootle Buck Posted March 6, 2006 Author Posted March 6, 2006 I think the key will be that early goal to keep the crowd in it. Most first halves at Anfield lately seem to go by so quickly with lots of possession but nothing to show. I think the crowd will get very frustrated if we play a slow possession type of game. We need to go right at them and let them know they are playing the Champion's. We can't afford a game like Real Betis earlier this season.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Olympiakos will do me nicely cheers... F!ck you Leo, my nerves were shot to bits that night !! I think it will be like a Roma night to tell you the truth, I know it does not have the same circumstances ala GH but we know we have to win 2-0 and we know we can do it.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 We had Heskey upfront and still won against Roma, so it's a possiblity.
Tetti Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Olympiakos will do me nicely cheers... I was in the depths of despair at half time, please say we don't go have to go through that again.
The Hitman Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 We had Heskey upfront and still won against Roma, so it's a possiblity.A tad unfair....
Paul B Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I honestly don't think such an atmosphere will be needed. I think we rested Gerrard in the first game because Rafa is convinced we have enough oil in the can to go through. I see us winning this one disappointingly easily. So therefore, it won't be "one of those nights".
Barnesy_10 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 A tad unfair....especially seeing as he scored the second
Guest jjasonuk Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 It's got to be, these are the nights we wait for. The cra ppy Saturday 12pm kick offs with no atmosphere are what we put up with for these big european nights. I have about 5-6 mates going on Wednesday and we all keep saying gee up everybody round you, dont stop, sing on your own if you have too. This is what we are famous for, being the extra man. We really need to stand up and be counted, just like Chelsea at home in the CL semi, we need to be wound up for this. I dont think we will let ourselves down, The new 120 SqM Liverbanner is out just before kick off that could help set the tone for the other stands to help the Kop out. Come Onnnnnn!
Ronnie Whelan Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 The chance are that with not as many ooters at the match on Wednesday there is going to be a better atmosphere than what we have seen in recent premiership matches. I was on the annie road end on saturday and there was a buch of drunken idiots behind us giving out about the players every time they touched the ball. Cisse the donkey, Djimi is crap, Crouch is a bean pole. This type of rediculous s****. Dont get me wrong, im an ooter, but i go to anfield to support the team not be a f***ing idiot. So, if there are less of these f***wits there will be a better atmosphere.
Guest Sabre Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I apologise now for asking the Kop to sit down I apologise now for ignoring stewards
Joshytoohotty Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I apologise now for asking the Kop to sit down We apologise for drowning you out as per usual.
RP Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 The chance are that with not as many ooters at the match on Wednesday There is no evidence at all that this will be the case. Why do you think there will be fewer Out of Towners?
Paul B Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 There is no evidence at all that this will be the case. Why do you think there will be fewer Out of Towners? Sommat good on t' telleh.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I honestly don't think such an atmosphere will be needed. I think we rested Gerrard in the first game because Rafa is convinced we have enough oil in the can to go through. I see us winning this one disappointingly easily. G Richards Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I think it will be a great night and the fans will create a fantastic atmosphere. But there's something about Benfica that doesn't quite stir the soul as much as the likes of the Chelsea or Juventus games. Still, having said that, it's do or die. We need two goals, three if they score. They have a goal threat (especially from set pieces) so the realistic prospect of not going through will bring all the fans to life and I feel the team will be well up for it too. Its got all the makings of another special Anfield night. I expect we'll go through a big range of highs and lows, but I'm backing us to win 3-1.
