Tyler Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Is Finnan likely to be fit for this game? I see Hyypia should make it although if its a hamstring injury it may be a risk to play him and risk losing him early on. Is Agger cup tied or would Traore fill in? Any selection surprises likely - looks like Alonso, Garcia, Morientes, Crouch and JAR were rested with an eye on this game so selection likely to be Reina Finnan (if fit) Carra Hyypia Riise Garcia Alonso Gerrard Kewell Crouch Morientes Subs - Traore, Fowler, Cisse, Hamann, Dudek I'd like to see Garcia play up front off Crouch and Cisse play on the left side of midfield Fowler can come on as minds and legs tire in Benfica defence if we need to get a goal Worried about this game, if they score we'll need three and they look capable of scoring from set pieces. Need to have everybody and the crowd up for this one and defend title as champions.
johngibo YPC Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 apparantly Hyypia is due to train on tuesday.Sky said Agger was cupties, but they also said Fowler was so i'm not sure
Jonesy Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 apparantly Hyypia is due to train on tuesday.Sky said Agger was cupties, but they also said Fowler was so i'm not sure Agger is. Fowler aint he played over there.
Bootle Buck Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) Is Kronkamp cup tied? if we need a replacement for Finann. I would feel much better if Traore wasn't needed anywhere. Edited March 6, 2006 by Bootle Buck
XabisBadFoot Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 apparantly Hyypia is due to train on tuesday.Sky said Agger was cupties, but they also said Fowler was so i'm not sure How can Fowler be cuptied for the Champs League..?? When did you see Manc City play in the tournament..?? Agger is cuptied as Brondby played earlier in the tournament. Shame, cos Bambi Traore is shaky in the centre to say the least...
Tetti Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I thought there was now a rule that said that one player who has played in a UEFA competition already can play for another side? or is that if he played in the UEFA cup, not the CL?

Ibby Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 unless anyone was asleep fowler played in the first leg so isnt cuptied (although you would be forgiven for believing he wasnt actually on the pitch)

Unless you mean Danny Agger who played for Brondby in the CL qualifiers, not the UEFA cup
kop205 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Is Kronkamp cup tied? if we need a replacement for Finann. I would feel much better if Traore wasn't needed anywhere. Kromkamp is cuptied. He played for Villareal in the group stages.
Tetti Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Unless you mean Danny Agger who played for Brondby in the CL qualifiers, not the UEFA cup I meant either Kronkamp or Agger. Perhaps the rule is that if they played in the Uefa then they can play in the Cl if they change clubs. And vice versa Just one player per club though.
Tetti Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 But if either had played in the Uefa cup instead, they could have played under certain conditions - see paragraphs 15.12 and 15.13 in the rules below. Shame really. http://www.uefa.com/newsfiles/19071.pdf
Guest Kev Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 The PMT is really starting to kick in. To go out to Benfica would be unbelievable, but the lack of goals could really hurt us. The first goal is so crucial, if Benfica get it then I cannot see us pulling it back. We don't have a devine right to go through, just because the crowd may make a noise doesn't mean we'll get through. This tie is definately winnable, but the lack of goals is a really worry to me.

It is a cup tie though, if we need 3 goals we are still capable of getting them. If the clock is winding down and we need a goal or 2 then they'll throw everything at it. you have to remember also that Benfica aren't actually that great a team... they look decent but they are well beatable. I wouldn't be suprised if we beat them 3-0 tomorrow night. remember, they were dead lucky to score that goal in the last game.
Guest Kev Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I just feel that some people are ultra confident because of the way Benfica played in the first leg. Have they forgotten how poorly we played ?
Andy-oh-six Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 i didn't mean that. what i meant was sky said Agger was cup tied, but as they also thought Fowler was, i wasn't sure whether or not to believe them It's usually a good idea not to believe Sky.
Ombudsam Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Id wack hyppia up front and play chelsea style if we need a goal towards the end. what's the point in having crouch if you have to do that
Jay Blizzay Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Fear not lads, Benfica are gonna get proppa handled 4-1
