Rent-a-quote ref Jeff mouths off again

John Brewin, Editor

Former referee and professional rent-a-quote Jeff Winter believes rival clubs are becoming 'sick and tired' of the behaviour of Premiership champions Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho's side were criticised following their 2-1 victory over West Brom on Saturday for perceived diving and intimidation of match officials.

Winter meanwhile has been criticised for his over-willingness to appear in the British media so he can pontificate on the refereeing issues of the day.

'Chelsea seem to be at the fore when simulation is spoken about,' Winter said on Sky Sports News, his regular paymasters since he was thrown off the referee assessors committee for his constant appearances on the rolling sports news channel.

'As we saw by the reaction of Bryan Robson, there are people in the game who are getting sick and tired of it.

'Sooner or later a player will be genuinely hurt but his reputation will let the culprit get away with it.'

Winter, a man who believes he was given a standing ovation by a knowledgeable Anfield crowd in his last game as a referee, believes players and clubs should be punished for crowding the referee after decisions have been made.

'The talk has got to stop and action has got to be taken,' Winter added in the Teesside accent all too familiar to Sky viewers and BBC listeners as well as those hardy souls who tune in to his local radio phone-in.

'Let's ban players, fine clubs and in a worst-case scenario deduct points because if you want to stop something there are ways and measures of what can be done.'

This is the last time Jeff Winter will ever be quoted on Soccernet, who are becoming 'sick and tired' of Jeff Winter.

? In the end I played a little bit extra, waiting until play was at the Kop end, before sounding the final shrill blast - a bit like the Last Post. The fans behind the goal burst into spontaneous applause. It was longer and louder than normal, even for a big home win. Did they know it was my final visit? Was the applause for me? They are such knowledgeable football people, that it would not surprise me. ?

? Jeff Winter's autobiographical fantasy

LOL @ Winter thinking our fans gave him a standing ovation. What an arrogant, deluded prick.

Tho he may have been a crap ref, I've come to agree with his views on SSN. Chelsea are cheating b******s and Winter is right to call them on it. Soccernet have shown their bias in favour of Chelsea by attacking Winter, and in doing so compromised any claim on neutrality they may have previously professed.

Refs have a tough job, lots of managers, players and fans unfairly criticise them and there is absolutely no one to publicly defend these c****, but Winter has bravely stepped up to the plate and admirably defended his comrades.

For that he deserves our respect, and a standing ovation on Wednesday night.

Ahhh it's class isn't it! I read that a while ago and thought, some people just have simply fantastic egos. It's one thing briefly thinking it but to then put it in print!

:D

Ah right, yep that applause was obviously for Winter then.

was only right and fair - he missed the mosaic the Kop did for him pre-match...
