Bit of a stupid decision. They came up with a team of Championship players, didn't add anyone of Premiership quality and they've known they're down since August. Who's going to come in now that will make a blind bit of difference and wouldn't be available in the summer anyway?

Lords knows who TLT will blame for this...............

Everyone apart from himself of course

Don't feel particularly sorry for him as I don't think he's that good at his job.

I agree with Gilps here

I thought they were doing a charlton. Promotion, clear you debts. Go down and come back up again. Then invest.

If you are going to do that you stick with the manager.

Who's on their shortlist now?

Felipe Scolari?

Guus Hiddink?

Ottmar Hitzfeld?

Otto Rehhagel?

and Dave Basset

Maybe RTE will hire him as a world cup analyst. I'd pay good money to watch a drunk Dunphy and himself fighting it out this summer. If they could also secure Quinn...

You stick with the manager if, like Curbishley, he's any good.

Feel sorry for McCarthy. I don't think Sunderland have been tonked this season, they've just lost by the odd goal here and there. As was said on radio yesterday during commentary on their game with City, the players are battling hard enough and team spirit seems to be fine so on the managerial level McCarthy seems to have done a reasonable job with the players at his disposal.

yeah.

maybe there's more to it than just results. perhaps the relationship with the board isn't the smoothest after his recent comments.

I think that winning the 2nd division with that s***house squad suggests he's better than you think.

Funny how the fans all had 'sack the board' banners yesterday, and where singing Murray Out. Don't think any of them blame McCarthy.

Whats the point in sacking him at this time of the season? And i think the fact that he won the league with a crap squad shows he is a decent manager.

Seems a bit harsh really. Mccarthy wasn't exactly given a blank cheque at the start of the season to strengthen his squad. It was always going to be a tough job to keep them up, but whenever they've been beaten its always been by narrow margins, they haven't exactly been dicked every week.

Exactly.

There seems to be something about clubs in the Northeast, they're all a complete joke who think they're bigger than they are.Sunderland,Newcastle and Middlesbrough all seem to have this trait.

Name me one manager that could get a decent side together out of what McCarthy's had at Sunderland?

You get what you pay for, have to speculate to accumulate and all that.
