Fagan Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Steve Finnan has today strongly denied claims that he racially abused Patrice Evra during Liverpool's Premiership clash at Manchester United in January. Two fans made the accusations to Manchester police that they had lip-read Finnan using a racist taunt while watching the game on television. The allegation has since been rejected by Liverpool officials after they employed a lip-reader to study video evidence from the game, with a club spokesman saying 'there's absolutely no evidence to back up this outrageous slur'. Finnan admits he has been hurt by the accusations and insists he would never use such language. He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I was astonished when I heard of the accusations and I categorically deny them. "It was disappointing to read the stories in the press. To suggest I would use racist language is very hurtful. "I don't really feel I should have to come out and say I didn't say this or I didn't say that, but because of what has been said and written I think it's important I do respond and set the record straight. I didn't say what has been alleged. It's all lies." ERE
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 At least he didn't say "some of my best friends are black"
AE Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 So two charges of wasting police time to come.......... yeh right

Fagan Posted March 2, 2006 Author Posted March 2, 2006 maybe im wrong here but, it seems to me that the fact these 2 people were deaf gave their accusation a huge amount of credit. If 2 united fans who had full hearing and no other disabilities (other than being a manc), reported to the police that they are sure they saw finnan mouthing a racist comment, or that they actually heard him saying it, then they would be told to f*ck off and that unless the player complains there is nowt they can do. But because these 2 people were deaf, not only did the police take it seriously, the national press took it and forced finnan to issue a bloody statement about it.

Dominus Maximus Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Now he's just mocking his accusors Sorry all deaf people, but that was fukin funny...

And they waited a month, until just after the Mancs had been k/o'd the Cup by us, to raise this? Bitter? Nah
Ombudsam Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Sorry all deaf people, but that was fukin funny... It's alright because they won't be able to read it will they. Gotta keep one step ahead
SkippyjonJones Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 you can rely on Finnan to run right over these accusations.
Paul B Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 If this goes ahead, it will put all players in jeopardy. In retaliation, several deaf fans at Anfield will "see" Gary Neville subject Peter Crouch to a torrent of heightist abuse before calling Sammy a white honky. Where will it all end?
stressederic Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Although I strongly doubt that Finnan said any of whats been alleged, and whoa betide me from suggesting a couple of depressed United fans tried to stitch him up, I do believe that matters like this regardless of player or circumstances should be investigated. The racism that has been brought up recently and the past of contingents in the Spanish league is a by product of inaction on behalf of the police and the footballing authorities. I'm sure Finnan has absolutely nothing to hide, and I'm sure the police and the FA if they investigate it will conclude the same, but it shouldn't stop them from looking into it. We were all rightly outraged when Momo was racially abused in a Champions League match.
RP Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 The two accusers independently reported Finnan for racially abusing Evra. But they each claimed he'd said something different. Sounds like compelling evidence to me.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 true enough. We have to make sure bitter fans don't make accusations as well though, knowing it'll at least put teh player of their focus through the mill for a bit

Paul B Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 and whoa betide me from suggesting a couple of depressed United fans tried to stitch him up, As if! Perish the thought.
Guest Aussie_Red Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 @ the jokes in this thread. I thought this whole thing was b******s when I first heard about it. I feel sorry for Steve Finnan for recieving this on top of the previous incident.
Falconhoof Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Finnan is clearly a Nazi and its obvious that in signing him, the Frenchman was trying to collaborate and create some sort of Vichy regime. I expect Traore goes gay bashing and Crouch is planning his own anti communist witch hunt. Its an open and shut case.
Jonesy Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 If it goes to court will they get legal aid as well as an hearing aid each?
Romario Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I wonder if the same two deaf fans are offended by Rooney calling everyone under the sun a c*** etc. all game. Are they black themselves or just racially sensitive or simply mancs looking to get a name for themselves.
