so, being as he's no longer first choice at the mighty West Brom. Kirkland asks to play in a reserve game for the Baggies last night, so he could at least play.

And then procedes to get sent off after 5 minutes

ere innit

It was a bad night for Albion in Wigan as the reserve team went down by three goals to one in a game that saw Kirkland dismissed after only five minutes.

The keeper was dismissed for handling the ball outside the area after a mix up with Uruguayan defender Williams Martinez.

Kirkland asked to play in the game to try and gain some much needed match practice after losing his first team place to Tomasz Kuszczak.

Albion were three nil down at half-time

and scored a consolation through Stuart Nicholson, his third goal in as many games for the reserves.

Reserve team boss Gary Shelton admitted that he felt sorry for Kirkland as the keeper has had his fair share of bad luck this season.

Shelton said, 'The referee stuck to the letter of the law when all their players and staff were urging him to only give Chris a yellow card.

'It was just unfortunate and came from a misunderstanding between Willy and Chris.

'Martinez did a lot better in the second half in his first full game in England and the boys did exceptionally well with ten men, even creating a couple of chances.

One thing is for sure this is going to be another season that Kirkland will want to put behind him as he tries to put his career back on track.

ridiculous plummet from grace from the boy kirkland. should've been first-choice england 'keeper now, the fragile t***.

Didn't drink his milk, it's obvious innit?

I can't say that I feel sorry for him.

I don't even see him as a Liverpool player anymore - wishful thinking, granted.

Another waste of money by Houllier!

I know he did a lot of good for us, but his transfers have hurt us badly since Rafa took over, shocked me even more when rafa said there wasnt any scout records for players etc..

And why buy 2 keepers in one go?

He has nothing on Rafa with goalies - Rafa's signed 4 in a year :P

His dad must be less confident about his bet now.

I was think that the other day. £100,000 isn't it.

To be so close and miss out would be heartbreaking !!

I hope he does eventually get to be in goal for England. He's young enough at least to not give up all hope

Why so vicious? I see nothing he's done to deserve it.

hardly vicious is it. Kin hell Scot! The stuff that gets written on these here forums, and you think thats vicious, when did you become so sensitive :P

Just have no feeling for him either way hence its hard to feel sorry for him.

He's hardly played for us in the great scheme of things. Just AN other player. And not a particularly good one.

You seem delighted at his situation. I dunno, don't get it. Kid had a bright future, not realised.

Not sure 'comedy gold' is how I'd think of it.

Well said Scot.

Since when did we start laughing at our own players misfortunes. Its not like he's been breaking his own legs to avoid playing now is it?

I thought it was going to say he injured himself eating a bag of crisps watching England's game last night. I heard they are making a movie about him.

fecin hell.

the irony of some of you getting all holier than thou here

I was laughing at him getting sent off after 5 mins of a reserve game that he himself asked to play in. I have nothing PERSONAL against him. So what if I can't say he tops my favourite players list, and see him as just another soon to be ex Liverpool player who did very little while here.

Get off yer high horses for fec sakes. The stuff that gets written on these forums about some of our players who actually still play for us is something to behold, and here are some of you getting all precious about this.

Especially you Scot, somone well known in the past on these forums for incesent whinging.

Sorry I fecin spoke

Thing is, you're likelier than most to chastise for making comments about our players, Benitez. You were out of order. End of.

Don't see why. Cheyrou's a joke, Diomede was a joke while here, Diao gets laughed about - what's the difference?

Posted

Difference - to me at least - is apparently being thrilled with the decline of Liverpool player, primarily through injury.

To the best of my knowledge Kirkland never acted the cn*t and, in fact, got sent off because he asked to play the reserve game. Normally we'd think it was a good thing that a player was asking for minutes in reserve game.

Just struck an off note for me. Don't see the humour in it to be honest.

To me it was in the irony that, having gone to West Brom to get first team action and hopefully secure his WC place, he a) loses his place to a bloke no one had previously heard of and then b) manages to get sent off five minutes into a game he wouldn't have been playing in if he hadn't asked

It's less laughing at him, more at the situation IMHO

You have to admit he's not the luckiest bloke in the game
