fyds Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 As part of a favour for a friend giving a talk in Amsterdam, I was out today with a hi-red digital camera filming some free-range chickens )don't ask, as I don't know the whole weird reason) not far from where I live, when I was quite literally caught in a blizzard that dropped 4 inches of drifting snow in one hour. Filming thus terminated, I got home to find a DHL delivery fan pulling up through the trees that I wasn't expecting. I was handed a large flat parcel which I signed for - just in recipt of, no sender listed and took it inside, lay it on the kitchen table and opened it. Inside was a very beautiful cherry red Gibson Epiphone DeLuxe Nighthawk guitar limited edition with gold everything and a certified gibson plate limited number, all packed in a carlsboro flight case. Between the strings, halfway up the neck was a mauve envelope, and inside it a handwritten note which said exactly this: Dear Ivan, I'm sending you this guitar as I feel my late husband would very much have wanted you to have it. He used to say 'Ivan would love one of these, it's even his favourite colour'. Please play it happyness and joy as he would have wished. Love and regards,Diane This is a lovely thing to receive and a fantastic kindness - but i have absolutely no idea who it's former owner was, or who Diane might be. This could be someone I've not seen in years...it's understandably messing with my head a lot tonight. I just wish I knew where it came from so I could thank 'Diane' for her kind thought and fantastic gift as well as giving her my condolences. I've tried phoning DHL but they know no more than I do, except that it was delivered to their offices in Sevenoaks. Weird day.
