Guest sniffer Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Just seen a short letter in the national press today which says, "How many people remember the name of the Liverpool FC player whose career was ended at Old Trafford by a rogue two-footed tackle by Gary Neville - unnoticed by the officials and by the sports media? The man's leg is still held together with metal pins" I've racked my brains and have come up with zilch. Anyone know who the writer is referring to?
Rushian Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 been discussed at length on another site and reckon the letter writer is talking out of their a***
Earl Hafler Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I seem to remember him catching someone like Redknapp with a tackle near the touchline but it couldn't be considered career endingas Jamie went on to play for Spurs and Southampton.
Earl Hafler Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 (edited) Vegard Heggem perhaps Hamstrings, wasn't it ? Edited February 28, 2006 by Big Stuff
Romario Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Vegard Heggem perhaps Hamstrings, wasn't it ?The last straw was some kind of Heel/tendon problems he just couldn't shake off. No idea why they are talking about though.I'm sure we'd all remember.
floyd Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 The man's leg is still held together with metal pins" Anyone know who the writer is referring to?Barry Sheene
PhilM Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Barry Sheene I think you'll find that death ended his career.
Big E Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 I remember this one. Metal pin in the leg, he cost a fortune when we signed him.
ManxRed Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 I saw him on telly last week, and he looked a million dollars! He's really let himself go, hasn't he? Sorry, someone had to crack that one....
Earl Hafler Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 and you don't call that ending his career? Spurs can always be trusted to take unwanted players off our hands. Payback for Paul Stewart
muleskinner Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Was it Nicky Tanner? Remember him?! Yes, it brings me out in hives when I think of him playing for Liverpool. He was forced out through a back injury.
Internationinteroperability Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 What's up with Vegard Heggem these days? He has always been one of my favourite Liverpool players. I remember him scoring a fantastic solo-goal again Sheff Wed, I think it was. Very likeable player!

Guest TanMan Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Vegard Heggem perhaps? His long term injury was courtesey of a Kevin Campbell challenge at Anfield
