The Hitman Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Beckham on a free? You've got to be kidding. His image clout would put his price at the £10m mark at the least.
Stevie H Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 RELEASE THE ANTI-MOCKERS TEAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't believe i've never started a thread in the general about wishing thatcher long life and happiness.
Kahnee Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 We could save ourselves a lot of hassle and possible expense by just training Gerrard, Alonso, Kewell, Garcia et al to take a good feckin' corner can't believe i've never started a thread in the general about wishing thatcher long life and happiness. Mine failed
Molby Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Beckham would be a great on-field signing, and as far as I recall, his off-field stuff didn't do too much harm to Man Utd, taken in context of his entire spell there
Mike Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Yes...he's a really good player.and boy...he's goyjus
Mikey Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Past his sell-by-date, on an ever so slight downhill slope.
Ostrich Man Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Past his sell-by-date, on an ever so slight downhill slope.makes him appear to run faster though.....
McBain Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I can just see Anfield next season. Beckham laying on the crosses for Van Nistelrooy to slot home. Marvelous Can we get Fergie in as manager as well?
Andy @ Allerton Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 With Perez gone surely there'll be a cull at the circus. Could do worse if he was got in on a free maybe, hard working, would suit our style of play etc. What say you? Sod. Off.
floyd Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 (edited) Appearing at Anfield every other week. She could also actually carry out a bit of spot welding Edited February 28, 2006 by floyd
CaptainXabi Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 How'd she nick Momo's new eyewear? Sack Parry!!
Leo No.8 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Real Madrid's best player this season by a mile, works his balls off, puts about as good a ball in as any player in the game, and lethal from set-pieces. Oh and would probably bring in about £10m a year with his name. You might have guessed I'm not going to toe the party line here - I'd have him at Anfield in a flash, who cares if he's got a nutty, preening wife she's got nothing to do with the football clubs he plays at. I reckon Rafa would sign him as well, that'd be a laugh to see some of the comments on here...
Ombudsam Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 For the right money, course he would. I can't believe the childishness about this. I can't stand the 'Becks' hype machine, or his wife, just as everyone else doesn't. However we've got to be able to be objective enough to recognise that he is a top quality player, with incredible ability, fitness and work rate. He is every inch a Rafa signing (if the price is right). yeah but is he the sort of player we want on the wing. I thought we were trying to injrct pace on to the flanks. We need it somewhere in the team
AndyM Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 (edited) Just can't picture him in a Liverpool shirt. But I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. Edited February 28, 2006 by AndyM
Guest Anders Honoré Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 yeah but is he the sort of player we want on the wing. I thought we were trying to injrct pace on to the flanks. We need it somewhere in the team Gonzalez and Sinama respectively perhaps (and kewell isn't exactly slow)? This of course presupposes that Real would sell their best player...
fred milne Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 (edited) Just can't picture him in a Liverpool shirt. I never expected to see Fowler in a Liverpool shirt again either.... Having said that, I can't see it happening. I doubt Real would let him go on a free as by all accounts a) he's been their best player this season and b) he's key to their marketing drive. Leaving aside all the baggage (ex-Utd player, his wife etc), would Rafa really pay a big transfer fee (and big wages) for a player whose best days are behind him? Edited February 28, 2006 by fred milne
Andy @ Allerton Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Who is also a complete and utter total c***?
Cooldude Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 I thought Rafa doesn't like his prima donna superstars who makes a fuss about everything? On the field he might do pretty well for us, but Rafa is not the type to allow a bloke to say skip a training session to fly to some part in European for some fashion events or whatever. Which is exactly what Beckham does half the time My feeling is Rafa wouldn't like the bulls*** hype he generates, hence therefore he won't even blink an eyelid at him if he's availble And I so happen to think Beckham's abilities are overrated and those current abilities wouldn't fit in our current side
Leo No.8 Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 (edited) He's been with Madrid for a couple of seasons, apart from a few small patches for a period of say a couple of months, his performances have been nothing short of inept for them. That's a pretty strong statement - I presume you've been watching them every week then to make as bold and damning a judgement as that. I've see plenty of Madrid, (just by watching La Liga on Sky of course, but they are on a lot) and Beckham doesn't look to have done too badly at all to me. I'd say rather than him having playing badly with good patches its been more like him playing well with a few bad patches linked as much to his discipline as anything. The most telling sign in questioning your statement, is how popular Beckham is with the Madrid fans who watch him play week-in week-out. He's the fans favourite over there. If we had a player whose performance had been largely 'nothing short of inept' over the course of a couple of seasons at the club, and brought as much hype as Beckham does, I don't think he'd be too popular with the fans - do you? Edited March 1, 2006 by Leo No.8
Cooldude Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Madrid fans love him, because unlike other "Galacticos", he actually tries his heart out. They love his committment, but some don't necessarily think he's good enough for them Last season he was quite simply crap. He had a good start in his first season with them but then tailed away badly, so badly that the press and their cats got on his back there. This season, even I'd say he's their player of the season, but as someone has already pointed out, he hasn't been that good in since New Year. Nevertheless, that is irrelevant to the topic, the topic is whether we should get Beckham, and I have pointed out my reasons. We ain't here to talk about whether he was good for Madrid or if their fans loved him
Guest AnfieldGrass Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Who cares whether Beckham is the fan's favourite at RM? They are RM we are LFC. RM are the Chelsea of Spain. Get over it Leo, he's overrated, overpaid, overhyped, overexposed, and has about as much chance of joining Liverpool Football Club as I have. Possibly even less.
