stressederic Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I was just thinking, what with Rafa denying he's off to Madrid (bloody tabloids) I was wondering, what would people rather hold on to. If it was a straight choice between having Rafa leave and the squad staying behind, or for some reason having the squad broken up but keeping Rafa, which would you rather have? This is obviously a hypothetical, but I was just interested to see what people would prefer.

A great squad is not necessarily a great team, but a great manager can make a great team from a reasonable squad. No-brainer for me. Edited February 26, 2006 by fyds
Guest Les Howard Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Rafa is irreplaceable; the squad isnt.
Internationinteroperability Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Rafa's selling the entire squad?!
Ombudsam Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 The squad. There are other managers but getting 25 new players would be an ask. The logic of saying rafa is that you'll just pack up and give in were he ever to leave. The Question is so out there anyway that you can't answer it Rafa is irreplaceable; the squad isnt. that doesn't make any sense

Rafa is an outstanding boss but if we're supporting him over the entire squad we may as well just become Rafa fans. Bizarre
psl Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Rafa's the most important person at the club but he can't go out and win the matches. So unless we had £300m for him to buy 25 new players, you have to say the squad.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I don't get this question. I mean, what the f***? Rafa on his bill with no squad couldn't do anything, so we'd end up being disqualified from all competitions. At least with the current squad we'd be able to play games!
Gomez Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 No brainer, Rafa can build another squad, the squad can't build another Rafa. This squad, no matter how good people think it is, would be midtable under someone like Alladyce. The manager is, and always will be the most important position at the club.

Not with the money we have. Its a bizarre question. Has Rafa sold the squad and got the proceeds to rebuild it with?
Gomez Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Not with the money we have. Its a bizarre question. Has Rafa sold the squad and got the proceeds to rebuild it with? Yes, it is a bizzare question, but assuming we have sold the squad rather than it getting kidnapped in a twighlight zone stylee, we'll have the money to rebuild, ie Gerrard went to the chavs for £40m, Xabi does a similar thing to Real, JC to South Liverpool (where else would he go?) etc. TBH, stick Rafa in charge of Hartlipoole, he'd make something out of them.
Ombudsam Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 TBH, stick Rafa in charge of Hartlipoole, he'd make something out of them. he'd have to invent them first Bloody hell, I'm overwhelmed by the imagination on display. Ok... Rafa goes to Madrid, we hold on to everyone. OR To help pay for our new stadium we have to sell Gerrard, Alonso, Carragher, Finnan and Garcia. But Rafa stays put. that wasn't the nature of the question you asked to be fair
