Guest RedIsMyColour Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Barcelona tonight, simply outsatnding. No long balls, just pure technical class in the midfield building through to the strikers. I could watch these play all night. Messi = A legend in the making.
aka Dus Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Fantasy stuff. Only happens every so often. That was utter destruction. Chelsea should shut up, keep thir head down and try change the subject whenever this game is mentioned.
Foo Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Class game by Barca, a deserved win in my eyes.
Spike Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 and two peno decisions didn't go for them as well
aka Dus Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 and two peno decisions didn't go for them as well The what ifs and close-things don't count for much in my eyes. It was the sheer quality of the play and how they ran through them at will which was evidence enough for me to make a judgement on the game.
Guest Red Mist Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Barca were awesome, in the last 20 mins they could have had 5 goals. I love their mentality, if we or any other English club were in their situtation in the last 5 minutes of a game, we'd try to waste time, run it into the corner flag etc. not Barca tho. They kept on pressing and looked to kill the game, even in the last few mins. They looked class even on such a disgusting pitch. I hope to god we avoid them in the latter stages, hopefully an Italian team will dump then out leaving the tournament wide open for us to win again.

Koller49 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Thought Barca were pretty mediocore first half and for the start of the 2nd, Last 20 Minutes they were very good, but then against 10 men they should be.

Cobs Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 (edited) Not if we played like we did against Benfica we won't.if we produce another 90 minutes in the 2nd leg like on tuesday we wont have to worry about facing Barca or anyone else... Edited February 23, 2006 by Cobs

Nebraska Red Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 We would beat Barcelona if we played them I assure you. you are a deluded young man. they would rip us to bits. Hyppia would be out for months with neck strains as their attackers left him looking at blurs flying past him. We would need 2 or 3 left backs to control Messi and heaven knows how we would contain Ronaldhino. our only chance would be to bombard them with crosses and hope that their keeper has another meltdown (or 2) as he fails to speak to his defenders.

When they're on song, they're amazing - when they're not 0 they can just as easily be twotted themselves.
_00_deathscar Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Barca's defence is quite weak. Robben was running at them freely. If Kewell could even damage Barca (hypothetically speaking - neither team is through or meeting yet) to half the extent Robben did, we're laughing. And then there's the small matter of Steven Gerrard (and Xabi Alonso).
Figaro Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 We would beat Barcelona if we played them I assure you. No we wouldn't - not at the moment...I assure you. Once our strikers start hitting goals then we may have a chance, but not at the moment and with Messi in the form he is in... Takes the pressure of Eto'o and Ronnie - they can now disappear for large periods of the game and the team doesn't suffer... Thought Barca were pretty mediocore first half and for the start of the 2nd, Last 20 Minutes they were very good, but then against 10 men they should be. From a pretty mediocre first half away from home at the PL run away leaders' stadium on a pitch in disgusting condition they had 63% of the possession and the best chances... They battered Chelsea down the right wing all through the first half and were comfortably at the back...they neverlost control of the game until Chelsea scored (or rather Motta got in the way, yet again) and then they regained control after five minutes...

Ha ha! I'd love to see a team who you think is good if you thought Barca were mediocre. They were excellent first half. Controlled the game and drew the sting from Chelsea entirely. Don't belevee the Moan, that game would have finished the same way if Chelsea had 12 men.
John am Rhein Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Escuela de la ciencia - what's that in Catalan? Hopefully the stuck up t***ts will get their just deserts in the 2nd leg. It'll be even better to see them cower and cringe in front of their own bouregois fans.

It'll be even better to see them cower and cringe in front of their own bouregois fans. That might be the best Barca play all season. And maybe they'll just do it to them again. Complacency is Chelsea's best hope. One thing for sure, the special one got it all wrong last night. Preparing a beach backfired, making it a priority to rough up Messi backfired and totally ceding midfield totally backfired.
Superjay Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 That was ruined for me last night with ian darke and andy gray, going on and on and on as to how barca are cheats and the ref is giving them every decision. 65 mins in, marquez comes in behing robben and kicks him 4 foot in the air, ref gives nothing. andy gray goes off on one "You see what I mean little things, chelsea can feel hard done by here!" ball goes up the other end of the pitch, Carvahlio rapes eto on the edge of the bx with a tackle that would give vinny jones nightmares. Not a word from the commentators.
MarkD Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 How good is Messi? £8 million pound starting left back, £13 million pound replacement left back - and both chose to try and kick lumps out of him. Don't get much for you money these days. That kid is excellent - Rooney should be playing Champions League Football to advertise his skills, don't you think?
Tosh Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 To be fair, even before ADH went off, barca had posession as it was claer that Chelsea were prepared to let them have the ball and play on the counter. Which at home was interesting The first half was dull as the game was totally compressed in the middle third. Chelsea let tham play it infront and across them and made sure that Messi and Ronaldinho had no space or time and also knew that the defence was prepared to kick lumps out of them to intimidate...Credit to Chelsea for coming out 2nd half and not hoofing it to Drogba as that also made the game more open. To me, it really was a game of 2 halves and I am not sure that the sending off was the reason - I think at 11 v 11 if Mourinho had changed tactics as he did at half time, the game would have been just as good. Barcelona may well rue not putting another goal or two in in the last quarter

Eiler99 Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Plan B ???????? It just means he had 10 men behind the ball instead of 11.
