Exactly. This is an area where Gray makes a t*** of himself week in, week out. He is so inconsistent when it comes to commenting on hand ball decisions. FFS, Geremi came out and blocked it like a rugby player would, yet he says it was ball to hand

Another thing, did you hear him try to excuse Del Horno's 'challenge' on Messi, aiming his studs into Messi's knees? Unbelivable! That's a sort of challenge that could destroy a footballers knee and subsequently their careers yet Gray accused the ref of being fussy for penalising Del Horno for that horrendous challenge.

agreed RTE's stuff is the best by a country mile, honest punditry with no one afraid to launch a scathing attack on a payers behaviour where its warranted.

I caught part of the game on Sky, the rest on Radio 5.

The contrast in the views on the sending off where vast;

Sky - (Gray) the ref had it wrong, he had been 'done' by Messi & the Barca players in general

Radio 5 - (Alan Green & Graham Taylor) the ref had no choice, nast challange, harsh but understandable

 

Having seen it myself I go with the 'harsh but understandable' view

I don't think I've ever heard worse commentary in my life. Gray was just terrible, his self-assurance and arrogance as he handed down bulls*** upon bulls*** would have been funny if it wasn't SO f***ING HATEFUL

 

But just as bad was that twit Hawthorne with his constant harping on that Chelsea weren't being treated equally by the ref. I mean one biased idiot you can just about get away with, especially if he's meant to be there as an 'analyst' (ha!) with opinions to share. But you might expect a fricking commentator to at least TRY to be even handed.

 

It all made their defeat oh so much sweeter.

 

And what a relief to hear the 5 Live commentary replayed this morning, Alan Green calling it exactly right, and me realising I wasn't the only one in the world who thought it was a sending off. Not least cos Del Horno tried to chop him down at least twice in the preceding minutes.
