Bootser Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Benfica beaten 2- 0 at weekend. Now 4th in table.
floyd the barber Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 reckon sissoko might be rested for this along with finnan.....with us possibly sitting deep and trying to hit benfica on the break, i reckon cisses pace as an outlet might be used. -------------reina-----------kromp--carra-hyypia-riise------alonso--hamann------gerrard-garcia-----kewell------------cisse------------

And besides that, Kromkamp is cup-tied.
floyd the barber Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 oops ok finnan bk in for krompkamp
Ronnie Whelan Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Does anyone know how close Luis is to starting a game?

stressederic Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Alonso is fit again. Liverpool Manager Rafa Benitez has received a boost as he prepares his side for tomorrow's Champions League clash against Benfica with the news that Xabi Alonso is fit to play. Speaking on the eve of the last 16 clash Benitez said, "Xavi is ok. He has travelled, he is well and he can be fit for tomorrow's game." And Rafa is also happy to be returning to Champions League action on the back of some fine domestic form. He said, "The team is playing very well at the moment and we've just enjoyed good wins against the top 5. "The Champions League is another competition and we know what we have to do. Our players have the experience of what it takes to win this competition and our idea tomorrow is the same, we want to score a goal and not concede if possible. "It will be difficult because they are a good team with an experienced Manager and we have a lot of respect for them. They have a number of good players and their two central defenders are good in the air and can play the ball. "Petit is a good player in midfield and of course there's Simao on the wing." Benitez was asked about comments made by rival Managers this week, but he refused to be distracted from his team. He said, "I like to see my team winning and not talk about other people, I have a clear idea about this. If people want to talk about us it must be because we're doing the right things and progressing." Offal

We won't have a hope in hell of scoring a goal if Cisse is the lone front man.Robbie and Crouch to start, a four man midfield: Stevie-Xabi-Didi/Momo-KewellWe'll win 2-0.
Stevie H Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Benfica are nothing special, why should we fear them and use a cautious approach? foolish statement. they're a very good side. reckon sissoko might be rested for this along with finnan.....with us possibly sitting deep and trying to hit benfica on the break, i reckon cisses pace as an outlet might be used. -------------reina-----------kromp--carra-hyypia-riise------alonso--hamann------gerrard-garcia-----kewell------------cisse------------ grauniad today reckons we'll go with the usual back five, gerrard, alonso, hamann, kewell, with garcia and crouch up front.

magneto Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 from abola.pt Benfica ? Moretto; Alcides, Luisão, Anderson e Léo; Beto, Petit e Manuel Fernandes; Robert, Nuno Gomes e Simão. Liverpool - Reina; Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia e Riise; Gerrard, Hamann e Xabi Alonso; Kewell, Crouch e Luis Garcia.
Guest Kev Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Gerrard on the bench. That's all I've been told.
Falconhoof Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Good, needs a rest IMO. We proved last season that we can win these big games without him.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 We proved last season that we can win these big games without him. We had IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGOR then though.
Guz Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 What with chelsea playing tommorow night and Gerrard on the bench (because he's obviously had a row with Benitez for not bringing enough world class or scouse players to Liverpool) tonight, I think it's becoming clear to all that he's off in the summer.
