Guest kring Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Is this the guy destroying football or is it all feckers playing for money at Chelsea.......... Skysports Manchester United defender Gary Neville has played down the abuse he received from Liverpool fans. The Red Devils skipper incensed Liverpool supporters with his celebrations at Rio Ferdinand's late winner in The Premiership clash between the two sides last month. And the Anfield faithful took their opportunity to respond during the 1-0 victory over United on Saturday, booing Neville every time he touched the ball. There was also a mixed reaction when Alan Smith was stretchered off with a leg injury, but Neville insists it is all part of thegame. "I have no reaction to the Alan Smith taunts," Neville told BBC GMR. "These things are part of football and you have to accept them. "We are getting a little bit too carried away with shouts from the crowd. These are minor incidents. "When you come to Liverpool, you expect to be given a tough time. Do you expect their supporters to smile at us and say 'go on lads, enjoy yourself out there?' That is not the way it is. The England star believes that the behaviour of the Liverpool fans is merely a reflection of the rivalry between the two sides, and revealed that the negative reception towards him came as no surprise at all. "This is football and it is important to a lot of people from both sides," he stressed. "I nail my colours to the mast and I expect and accept it is not going to be accepted by the Liverpool fans. "I have been to Anfield a lot down the years. The reception was not too bad and as long as the abuse doesn't boil over onto the pitch, I don't have a problem with it. It is part of the game."
Andy Mac Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Can't stand the bloke but I accept what he is saying. He's 100% spot on, too.
Benitez Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 "..... believes that the behaviour of the Liverpool fans ".... We should be honoured, they only ever mention Liverpool fans when it comes to dishing out 'abuse'. The other teams fans must be perfect, bless 'em
Billy Dane Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Fair play to him, he's right. Took the stick very well yesterday I thought. Still hate the Mancs obviously, but Chelsea are catching them up fast.
Guest Sabre Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Yup, whenever there was a possible bust up, he did walk away and tried to keep his players out of it.
Guest kring Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 He is the Mancs Carra - without any kind of class ofcause - but still I see where he's coming from!! There is a lot of players in the league I can't say the same about..... I hate his guts but he's still part of what makes football great!
Gunga Din Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 i have to say i had a lot more respect for Gary Neville at the final whistle than i had at the start. he just put his head down and had a pretty decent game. and his comments there are spot on, armchair fans spouting off about matchgoers handing out abuse to players gets on my fecking nerves. i would love to see how some of the fans posting on this board would react if they could get a real insight into the Kop and the fans that stood there in the 70's and 80's.
AndyM Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I like him.I think we should sign him.Finnan's s*** anyway and that's been proved by the fact he hasn't got a single England cap to his name.
Guest roger Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Dont be lulled into reducing your dislike for him by his sneaky comments. Not that you would. He is a nasty piece of work!
nd Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Jesus, this is verging on a Gary Neville love-in. It's refreshing to see someone tell it like it is. Fair play to him really. He dislikes us, we dislike him - but in a weird way I think there's a grudging mutual respect. This is why you need local lads in any team.

RP Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 The abuse definitely got to him yesterday, that was the worst game he has ever had at our place. But he's right in what he says.
Cam Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Is this the guy destroying football or is it all feckers playing for money at Chelsea..........."There was a great article early this season about how great it is that players that fans can identify with (like Carragher, Neville and Terry) are finally getting the recognition they deserve and becoming favourites. The other 2 are still ****s obviously but I do have some respect for them. All 3 have occasionally stepped out of line but they haven't forgotten their roots. They are the names our kids should have on the back of their shirts, the people to inspire the youngsters. A comment attributed to 'Our New Friend Gary' not mentioned in that article is "football is important to the people of Manchester and Liverpool". Nailed it.
dorgie Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Sounds to me like the c**t is just trying to earn some Brownie points in advance of his hearing this week. "Oh I'm really really sorry, should never have done that at O.T., and look how I've repented since in what i said after Saturday's game". It'll probably work too, with those gormless geeks in the F.A.
Earl Hafler Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I thought a similar thing when he kept trying to keep their players away from the ref. Evidence for the defence.
dorgie Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I'm not sure, but if he were hit with a suspension, would it be the Carling Cup final that he'd miss ? If so, then this only re-inforces my thinking that he's only doing this to look like a saintly little player that he ain't. Especially with him being captain in a final, he'd be gutted. But as I said, they will be afraid to ban him, as usual with the Mancs.
nd Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 So nd is standing for Nevilles daddy, huh?? Damn. Sussed.
Leroy Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Noticed at one point he got a right kick in the arm, just got up holding it not a murmur from him, just ran off,has he some Ulterior Motive like keep quiet, I want to get out here alive, but fair do`s to him.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Still wish it was him instead of Smith.

But as I said, they will be afraid to ban him, as usual with the Mancs. I've read in a couple of places that there's no chance of a ban, just a fine, as the ref put in his report that if he'd seen the incident he would have booked Neville. If a ban was a possibility he would have been dealt with through the fast-track system.

I remember many a chorus of "die you Barsteward die" as an opposing player lay injured. It was just part of the banter of the game. Too much polital correctness these days.

Billy Dane Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 So he ran 60 yards and kissed his badge (when he found it) in front of our fans when they scored, so what. Doesn't deserve to be banned for that. For being an ugly Utd loving fecker yes, but not for that.
