Reina, Carra, Hyypia, Riise and Finnan, when they have played together in defence, apart from Ferdinand at Old Trafford, has anyone actually scored against us this season? i was thinking about this at the game yesterday, and i honestly cant think of anyone who has.

Its looking a fantastic unit. I hope Rafa keeps with Riise at left back for the rest of the season & stops tinkering at left back. The defensive aspect of his game has improved hugely this season particularly at covering round the two centre backs. neither Ronaldo or Rooney got much, if any change out of him yesterday.

There was a big thread on this started by me a few weeks back when I suggested Riise wasn't the weak link at left back as popularly suggested. At the time the only goal conceded against the back five was Carvalho in the Super Cup.

Riise has done well this season, left back defo isnt anywhere near a priority if he keeps up the way he's playing. He is the weak link in the defence but thats purely because the other 3 are so good rather than any problem with him.

Some month or so back I pulled up some stats on our record with Riise at left back, and up until then we hadn't let in a goal in the league whenever he's been playing at the back.

 

And it's pretty impressive to know that since then, only Ferdinand has scored. That too, was off a set piece. Mind you we did let in a soft one against Chelsea when Riise was asleep for Gallas' goal.
