Did he ever say that? Given their current habit of buying,or trying to buy, every young talent in the country it's surprising they didn't even consider moving for the best. Hard to believe they paid more up front for SWP than United did for Rooney.

I would guess they made private enquiries and were rebuffed by the player himself and so saw no point in being publicly humiliated.

Didn't Rooney say he wasn't interested in going there? Or at least, he wasn't interested in going to London. Wanted to stay in the North.

Yep he was quite specific about it. Didn't fit into the style of play he wanted and wanted someone who didn't need polishing and when Utd bought Rooney he was still very young.

That's strange, think he'd suit their style pretty well, he can hold the ball up relatively well.

He's not bad at it, but I don't think he's as suited to the lone striker role as Drogba--he's certainly not as strong in the air--and his best position is a bit deeper.
