floyd the barber Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 would have been one of the greatest goals ever seen at anfield if riises strike had hit the back of the net... For me, he had a strange game last night...did well defensivly but some of his distribution was shocking
Edvard Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Thought it was nice to see Riise getting stuck in myself. Didn't see him bottle out once last nice.
swampyjocks Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 (edited) Even my grandmother would have dealt Ljungberg yesterday. Ljungberg has been s**** in past two years. Let's see how Riise does againts "on form" Ronaldo at saturday. Ljungberg is so injury prone that he cant get back to fitness and play well anymore which is great for us. Ronaldo does all the tricks but he doesnt come up with the important goals like luis keeps doing. would be great to see us hammer them like we should have done twice already this season! nd Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Riise has come on defensively under Rafa, that's for sure. He was one of the best LBs in the league before Xmas...and I used to dread seeing him there.
StevieC Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 It seems like there was an edge in the tussle with Ljunberg all game. Each player trying to get sly digs in. Riise seems to need a challenge to up his game. His ability to get that ball on his left foot is a huge weapon and nearly came off last night. Norwegian vs Swede.
cestrianred Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Norwegian vs Swede. ...stole my thunder!!!Was scanning the thread thinking "it's because of Nationality" and Stevie beat me to it! My mate (there as usual last night) works with/for (in part) Swedes & lived there (suffering) for 2 years-hates them!! JAR was extra hyped against Freddie & it appeared to be Anglo-Scot factor from my (close) view last night!
R A Softlad Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 in fairness, thora hird would have easily dispossessed ljungberg last night. Dame Thora's been dead three years now... no national day or morning though.
Spike Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 It's more a reflection of our improvement that we have completely nullified some great players this season during key games as opposed to their players not doing so well / poor form.
tomas Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 It's a minority complex thing. Norway is a young nation and has been ruled by either Danes or Swedes for big parts of their history
IgPig Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 He's a better than average full back - not great but decent. Eventually, I think we'll get someone else in for that position but Riise is handy to have around nonetheless.
Maldini Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 He's been the best LB in the league this season
Falconhoof Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 people seem to be getting carried away a bit. This is an Arsenal team that Bolton have beat 700 times in the last 12 months. Ljunberg and Pires were piss poor so lets not go drawing any conclusions about how excellent Riise is or how our defence has improved. I'm not saying we haven't reasons to be optimistic going into the Man U and benfica games - far from it. But they will be a much sterner test than arsenal posed last night.
Scally Bob Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Riise is bordering on adequate, no more. If he's been the best LB in the League that's an indictment of how poor the League is. Heinze and Cole missing most of the season would have helped as well. His distribution is Sunday League.
