I just knew we would miss the pen, so I'm glad Fowler didn't take it. ;)

I'm glad our captain steps up and takes responsibility in these situations.

fowler though - that touch he took with his left foot, killing the ball dead before shooting with his right - the boys still got it.

Indeed - and them two left foot crosses, one on the volley, class!

this is ridiculous

Gerrard is our penalty taker...he has looked good with them recently......He missed one

get over it

Anny - this is my sarcastic response to the Morientes thread post-Wigan game...

Unfortunately no-one realised I was taking the pisch...

Quite depressing really...

...taken the penalty he would have scored.

If we would have won all of our games we'd be top...

Does stevie realise there is a left side of the goal when you take a penalty?

Rule of thumb from le Tissier, penalty taker extraordinnaire :

' If you tqke your team's penalties or direct free kicks, find out which is the opposing keeper's stronger side before the game - do a bit of homework. Keepers always favour one side over an other - it's usually based on whether or not they are left or right handed, but sometimes it can also be to do with which of their eyes is stronger - in most people one eye is stronger than the other, one foot slightlt bigger then the other etc.

The keeper will always leave a slightly bigger gap on the side he feels most comfortable with (my note : Vlad had this sussed with Dida and told Djobs to go to the keepers left). Don't be affraid to go to the seemingly smaller side, but do not indicate this by looking in that direction or shaping for it with your body language. Always try and get the ball as near to the post as possible, and about head height which makes it all but unstoppable. All you have to do then is concentrate on accuracy rather than power. The reason so many penalties appear to be scored right down the middle these days is due to the fact keepers favour one side, which instinctively they will dive to if not given any clues by the taker'.

I think he only ever missed one right at the end of his career.

well i did ask for a source....

seems odd that the advice of the best penalty taker in the business is "use a completely different technique to the one i did" - don't you think?

Not really when he has the ability to, at the moment of impact, put the ball wherever he likes and very few other people can do that.

Would Michael Johnson teach budding sprinters to mimic his style ?

Fowler missed pennos for us too.

If not Stevie G, I'd probably pick Kewell. He's a decent striker of a dead-ball. That's why I didn't s*** it in the ECF when Vlad stepped up

i don't fancy kewell for penalties at all.

is xabi alonso destined to only ever take one penalty for us and that in the european cup final?

fowler's penalty in the worthy cup final v. brum is one of the best i've ever seen. ran up to the ball straight, and with hardly any backlift put it top right with his left foot.

another fantastic penalty taken under severe pressure was gascoigne's in the euro 96 semi-final.

Harry was supposed to be pen taker #1 in the ECF.

Yes. It's probably scarred him
