Guest RedIsMyColour Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 We do seem to get a vast amount of corners but I cannot remember the last time we scored directly from one, considering we have the likes of Sami, Morientes, Crouch and other big lads its a bit strange. With the amount of corners we get we should really get goals from corners.
Guest AnfieldGrass Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 We don;t get s*** from corners, 13 today and not one of them was a real threat. I wish Gerrard would stop taking them and get in amonsgt it. Sureky alonso should take corners.
Guest Sabre Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Loads of threads on this over the past couple of weeks - you're right though
Gerrardrules Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Kewell's corners are even more s****!!
Greenoak Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 kewell took a few as well its got to the point of not cheering a corner
Herbie von Smalls Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 there was an article in a footy mag a while back that highlighted the lack of goals scored from corners nowadays. i think teams are getting better at defending them.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Speaking of corners, zonal marking still looks well dodgy.
Bootle Buck Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I don't know why the crowd still gets excited when we get a corner. You can predict what is coming.
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Our continued use of short corners is annoying as well, especially when we lose the ball before the ball is whipped in on various occassions. Very frustrating.
Earl Hafler Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 there was an article in a footy mag a while back that highlighted the lack of goals scored from corners nowadays. i think teams are getting better at defending them. I think it has something to do with the Nike ball and the current fashion of whipping them in...most don't seem to get past the defender on the front post nowadays.
Jim D Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Apparently we top the League Table of corners in the League. We certainly don't make much of those opportunities.
Dule Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I will put my nutts on it, that Rafa will make sure he corrects our corner problem over the pre-season. Rafa always seems to notice what we notice a little while down the track. Obviously he has alot more things going on behind the scenes, and things do take time to correct also. But i just cant help but feel that he always to correct a player, a problem in the team, anything that needs correcting.
Walrus Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Rafa always seems to notice what we notice a little while down the track. good one
Redwire Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Rafa always seems to notice what we notice a little while down the track. That's twice you've posted that tonight. Are you mad?
DonRafa Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 That's twice you've posted that tonight. Are you mad?
Knox_Harrington Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 That's twice you've posted that tonight. Are you mad?No. He's magnanimous.
Guz Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Our corners were much better today in my opinion, at least some were a threat and also had a touch of variation instead of always playing it short. Been a critic of Gerrard and corners in the past but surely our truly inept use of set pieces vs Charlton showed it's not all his fault.
Nebraska Red Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 you can add throw ins to our lack of decent corners. our movement at throw ins is abysmal at times, so many times we end up throwing it upfield hoping for a flick on. since Dalglish left, we have not had anybody who is good at receiving the ball from a throw in.
CarraLegend Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 This is a massive thing Chelsea have on us, the goals they get from set pieces, They beat both Wigan and Boro at Stamford Bridge in recent months 1-0 both goals from corners, first goal against us? Gallas from a set piece. Their winner against us at Anfield last season? Corner. Their winner against us at Stamford Bridge last season? A free kick. They decide a lot of games by one set piece, defo something we need to improve. Gallas, Terry and Carvalho have 8 goals between them this season
Guest Kev Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 (edited) Djibril Cisse away at Anderlecht I think. Last one in the Prem could be Igor's goal against Bolton Edited February 15, 2006 by Kev
Earl Hafler Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 One more thing i don't understand about our set plays. No one hardly makes a move, we just stack everyone in around the penalty spot. We don't seem to have anyone running form deep, anyone running across the area towards a post. The best corner last night was Kewell's drive to Hyypia and what a flick that was from the big man !
RedHarvest Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Speaking of corners, zonal marking still looks well dodgy. There's been a worrying amount of free headers conceded over the last few games - Toure last night, De Zeauw twice on Saturday (one of them gilt edged definitely wouldve been scored if it was a striker). I was bricking it when Arsenal got that corner in the 93rd min.We look shaky and we've got away with it so far. As for corners - I think Xabi should take them.
Stevie H Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 we are so s*** at corners its not true.if its not a failed 'clever' short corner it doesn't beat the first man.gerrard is shocking at corners, which is bizarre because he's an amazing crosser of the ball. alonso should take them. its clear. definitely alonso should have them. whatever happened to hanging the ball up on the penalty spot and having players running to attack it from outside the area?
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 direct from a corner? Think Dalglish did it once
