Cisse Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 (edited) This win so crucial for the rest of the season. We looked jaded in the 2nd half but good defending kept us in the game and the Dude made som critical saves. Must admire Wigan for their attitude to the game. Really went at us between 45-60. Dudek 8. The deflection off Sami was a world-class save.Finnan 8. A f** rockSami 9. A f** rock and matchwinning goalCarra 8. A f** rock.Riise 7. Not so good 1st half but fought well and despite having a good Teale against him did well.Gerrard 7. Up/down performance but good.Xabi 9. Fought like a cart-horse. Incredible stamina but some mis-hit passesDidi 8. At his best. Calming and influential.Kewell 6. Below his recent perforamnces. Hided from some challenges. Good at keeping the ball though end of the game.Mori 5. Nothing glues does it.Fowler 7. His first half was senasationally good. His movement was 1st class. I think he secured a new contract already today. Disapperared 2nd half when the legs went.Kromkamp 6. Really looks a decent footballer. Deal of the century.Cisse 5. Nothing glues does it. Billy Dane Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Kromkamp Deal of the century. you are taking the p*ss aren't you?
FC Showster Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 you are taking the p*ss aren't you? I think he means that we got a decent footballer in exchange for Josemi. Harsh but fair
McBain Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Some really bizarre ratings going on. Xabi 9? I'm one of his biggest fans but he was terrible today Only Jerzy, Fowler, Sami and Dudek would get over 7
anfieldgaz Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 MOM....... .Sammi a rock! Nando just what is goin on there please can anyone tell us. His stats speak for themselves and he WAS a world class player. Just think the prem is not for him and think we need to cash in in the summer and not loose 6 million. Some really bizarre ratings going on. Xabi 9? I'm one of his biggest fans but he was terrible today Only Jerzy, Fowler, Sami and Dudek would get over 7

realtarragona Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Scrappy game on a terrible pitch so a good result and a half-decent performance considering the circumstances. The defence was fine, Hamann and Fowler also stood out.
McBain Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 There's only two Jerzy Dudeks... Dunno what I did there

I'm one of his biggest fans but he was terrible today Only Jerzy, Fowler, Sami and Dudek would get over 7 It wasn't one of those games dear McBain. His workrate, attitude and batlling lead the way today. To me that's a 9.
Guest roger Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Watched the whole match- that was spoiled by the pitch. Nothing happened in the final third very much for us! Usual story. Thought Riise was fairly anonymous. Dudek deserved an 8. Kewell was OK. Carragher was unspectacular but safe. Good win I say!
4411 Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Xabi was s****! Dudek MOTM for me, made sure Hyypiä didnt put the ball in his own net and he made 2 world class saves. One thing though that pisses me off a bit is that Dudek is so slow putting the ball back into play, Reina is always looking to counter.
stressederic Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I thought Riise was excellent today, Teale knew he was ingame against him, and on the measure of it didn't get very much luck against him at all.
David Hodgson Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Some really bizarre ratings going on. Xabi 9? I'm one of his biggest fans but he was terrible today Only Jerzy, Fowler, Sami and Dudek would get over 7 Yep. I thought Kewell did Ok too. He can do better, but did OK. Actually I don't think that anyone really merited over 6. We were bloody average today, but that'll do for me. A win's a win, especially when you've been on a losing streak. It wasn't one of those games dear McBain. His workrate, attitude and batlling lead the way today. To me that's a 9. I'm sorry that's just nonsense. A '9 performance' is an exceptional thing, and Xabi is an exceptional player, who had one of his poorer games in a red shirt today.

Kite Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Thought Gerrard was one of our weakest players myself. Alonso's passing was awful in general but he was stuck in for 90mins and was constantly closing down their players. Gerrard seemed to only start playing for the last 20 or 30 mins. Moro had a much better game today and felt he was working fairly well with Fowler, but again no real end product. Overall I didn't think anyone was over a 7, especially given the ground we conceded to them in the second half. I'd pick Hyppia man of the match, for general good defensive play and the very important goal, though Dudek certainly did well today too.
eth Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Seems a bit laughable to give Morientes more than Cisse, thought the latter was one of our better players for the period that he was on the pitch. I'm struggling to think of a point in the second half when Moro touched the ball without losing it immediately. And Xabi doesn't deserve more than a 6. Just in general we seem really disjointed at the moment. Ironic after 'the team' was considered the reason for the winning run.
Gravy Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Yep. I thought Kewell did Ok too. He can do better, but did OK. Actually I don't think that anyone really merited over 6. A '9 performance' is an exceptional thing, and Xabi is an exceptional player, who had one of his poorer games in a red shirt today. He's had few bad ganes lately, and all in all not that good a season. He looks tired to me. It's quite a common thing though, an excellent foreign footballer comes over, has a great first season and has a dip in the second one.
Captain Carrot Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Fowler's off the ball running was excellent. Kewell's crossing was Sunday football stuff always tried to beat the fullback (and failing) instead of a quick cross.
Kite Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Xabi was not s***. He may not have spent 90 mins hitting 90 yard balls but there's more to being in midfield than that.
Cisse Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 Watch it again, mate. Hamann was excellent. Xabi worked his b******s off closing down their midfielders, won the ball plenty of times on a s*** pitch. In games like that you need determination and commitment, not just silky passing. Xabi put his whole heart into running all game and trying to stop Wigan playing. My point exactly and that's why I gave him a 9. Due to the pitch he couldn't play his normal game instead it was a McMahon-esque performance that was mighty impresseive indeed. Sorry for the ones who can't appreciate it. Well done Xabi
Maldini Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Xabi worked hard, but in an away game with the midfield consisting of Xabi and Hamann, he's not in the team for his graft, he's in the team for his creativity and today he gave the ball away more than he did in the whole of last season. Nobody is questioning him as a player, he's still a deity in my eyes, he just had a bad game today.
