Romario Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Obviously a player like Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be brilliant for us playing a 4-5-1 but he's out of our league price wise. We'll probably sign 2 strikers who most of us have never heard of but if it was up to you... Personally I think we have to wait until the end of the season to see which strikershave found their feet before making decisions but I'd obviously take Owen back and or Defoe. Also Jakubu and or Mutu I think would be worth a gamble. What about you?Recommend 4 strikers who you think we could afford and who can actually score.

G Richards Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 2 a bit lesser known (though still quite well known to some): BojinovNihat Then 2 more familiar: KuytDefoe
alias75 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Think we may have to think about strikers for the league games and maybe a different player for the CL type games. In the PL pace and power are the key attributes, ideally you sign someone with pace and power with the class and awareness but this typeof player is tough to find and very expensive. Players like Defoe, Owen, Andy J even a Darren Bent type player will make their own chances because of their pace, these players are also pretty selfish in front of goal which is what we need. However of the above players only Owen and maybe Defoe i think could cut it in the CL and a slightly different style of football. Here you need a striker with clever movement and good first touch, ideally with pace and power. Someone like David Villa i think is an excellent all round forward, quick and strong and he scores plenty of goals.

Dominus Maximus Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I'll have a go. Johan Elmander - Brøndby IF £4mJohan is a big strong striker, with good technical skills. Actually he is close to winning a spot on the swedish WC team. Andy Johnson - CP - £6milMore english, always nice. Johnson proved with a high goal tally, that he can find the net. I still think he is worth the gamble. Miroslav Klose - Werder Bremen - ??? (guess around £5mil)A great player in the air, and with a proven goalscoring record in a big league. Klose should be a target for us. Anyone who has seen him play can agree that he is leathal. Buy him before the WC, as he would definatly score some goals for the home side Raul Tamudo - Espanyol - £8milTamudo has for a long time been Espanyols go to guy. He scores on a regular basis and has a nack for finding the holes. A hard worker and I think he would fit perfectly. Nuno Gomes - Benfica - £7milAnother great player in the air (see the pattern) Gomes has been playing the lone striker for years now. He reminds me a lot of Baros. Though Gomes is not that technical he is stronger in the air, good target man and leathal in front of goal. Kris Boyd - Rangers - ??? Have seen him play only a few times, but he looks like a real poacher. Swap him with Crouch. I also strongly recommend that we find a buyer for Cissé and send Morientes back to Spain. I honestly do not see a future in those guys.
Cheesecake Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I'd say Klose is similar to Crouch in what he brings to the team. Boyd - I'd agree with but seeing as he's just signed for Rangers and likely to be on a 4 + year contract... Still recon Riordan would be worth a punt and cheap too.... plus he's prolly been kicked to fk in the SPL so the PL would be easy for him physically! - not sure how he'd cope with the standard thoufh. Can say much about your otherr choices as I dont know of them.
Dominus Maximus Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 (edited) I'd say Klose is similar to Crouch in what he brings to the team. Klose is no way near the height of Crouch. Actually he is kindda small. He does have an awesome jump power. And he scores bagloads. 16 this season already. He is way way better than Crouch. Edited February 8, 2006 by Crouchinho
Romario Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 Miroslav Klose >If that's the German international you're talking about then I think he's very one dementional. I don't think he's any better than what we have and I'm not sure he'd score many in our league. Of course you never know.
Dominus Maximus Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Whats up with the Kuiyt hype. Saw him play last week and he does look very mediocre. Klass Jan Huntelaar is a much better prospect, and I think he has already outscored Kuiyt. Miroslav Klose >If that's the German international you're talking about then I think he's very one dementional. Accoring to Bild (german newszeitung) nobodys scored more goals from headers than Klose in Europe this year. Also he can boast from having the highest scoring percentage...

lawrie Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Honestly haven't got a clue but I think we would be gambling less with proven premiership strikers
Dominus Maximus Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Honestly haven't got a clue but I think we would be gambling less with proven premiership strikers Sure but can we afford a proven premiership striker?
Rahul Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I wouldn't mind considering Darren Bent or Collins John either actually. Still both young, and know where the goal is. Obviously Owen or Defoe are less risky, but still...
Guest Syfer Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 kuyt is very average, though some people just like to mention players that has been linked with liverpool on previous occasions. there are several very promising strikers out on the marked.
4411 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 1. Micheal Owen and Wayne Rooney2. Adriano3. Gilardino4. Defoe
BG Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I quite rate Johnson. It happens that Simon Jordan is a member of the gym I go to. Chatted to him a few times - nice bloke. Think Johnson will only go if he really really pushes it and says he won't stay etc.
stressederic Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Klose does score a lot of headers. Unfortunately we don't put in a lot of crosses, so unless he's going to start doing his best work below sea level, or we manage to steal Pennant off Birmingham, I can't see that one working.
Gilps Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 there are several very promising strikers out on the marked. on the marked what?
