Ratters Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 For a big piece of the jigsaw. If we where to blow it on a striker in the summer which striker would you get ?? Remember if you get it wrong you waste our whole budget. Who do you think could come here and be a virtually guarenteed success.

Remember if you get it wrong you waste our whole budget. Who do you think could come here and be a virtually guarenteed success. No one is guaranteed success. Owen/Defoe/Johnson i would be happy with one of them, maybe even 2.
Stevie H Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 any examples of clubs that have done that and really seen it pay off?
Gray - YPC Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 any examples of clubs that have done that and really seen it pay off?Newcastle For the record.... I'd still LOVE Owen more than any other feasible/realistic striker.
dodgy1 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 any examples of clubs that have done that and really seen it pay off? Cant remeber the fee but Shearer/Newcastle. ?
Stevie H Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 aye 'cos newcastle have won just bundles of trophies since haven't they?
Eskimo Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 any examples of clubs that have done that and really seen it pay off?Barca with Eto'o and Ronaldinho
owenthomas Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 any examples of clubs that have done that and really seen it pay off?van Nistlerooy cost a fair bit..
kenny7 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Cant remeber the fee but Shearer/Newcastle. ? £15 m
dodgy1 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 aye 'cos newcastle have won just bundles of trophies since haven't they? I was reffering to how a player has done at a club and i think he has been a little bit good. smarta***.
Falconhoof Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 LiverpoolBarnes 900k, Beardsley 1.9 million OK it was 2 players but they paid off from day 1 and at the time that was an astonishing outlay.
Stevie H Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Barca with Eto'o and Ronaldinho fair comment. didn't they sign deco and others at the same time though?
Rushian Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 LiverpoolBarnes 900k, Beardsley 1.9 million OK it was 2 players but they paid off from day 1 and at the time that was an astonishing outlay. we had just received 3.3m for Rush though .....
Falconhoof Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 we had just received 3.3m for Rush though ..... Oh I know, there's no way we'd have had the money otherwise. Fantastic bit of business though that still makes me grin just thinking of the audacity of going out and getting those two. On a par with getting a pair like Eto'o and Ronaldinho. What price would they be now ?
Eskimo Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 fair comment. didn't they sign deco and others at the same time though? yeah I guess so....but does that really matter they still had to fork out for them.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 any examples of clubs that have done that and really seen it pay off? ManU - Veron
Andythered Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 If we spent £25 million on Robbie Savage would you feel better? That really would be blowing the budget.
Rushian Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Oh I know, there's no way we'd have had the money otherwise. Fantastic bit of business though that still makes me grin just thinking of the audacity of going out and getting those two. On a par with getting a pair like Eto'o and Ronaldinho. What price would they be now ? Well at the time the Barnes move wasn't universally welcomed by fans - and don't forget we paid nearly as much for Houghton not long after.
Alonso Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 For a big piece of the jigsaw. If we where to blow it on a striker in the summer which striker would you get ?? Remember if you get it wrong you waste our whole budget. Who do you think could come here and be a virtually guarenteed success.Adriano - pace, strength, skill, good in the air, can hold up the ball and scores a few too! Perfect attributes for the Premiership altho acclimatisation may be the only stumbling block. Unfortunately no chance
Tones Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 We would be daft to blow our whole budget on one player. And none of the examples above are of clubs bloeing all their budget on one player and it being "the final piece of the jigsaw"
Benzo-13 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Fernando Torres: Potential to harness. Our manager could really make him the player he should be. Cost £30m-ish.. Eh?
Falconhoof Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Well at the time the Barnes move wasn't universally welcomed by fans - and don't forget we paid nearly as much for Houghton not long after. What player ever is universally welcomed though ? In the context of blowing your entire budget and taking the team to dizzying heights as a consequence, those 2 take some beating as summer signings.
Falconhoof Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Paul Ince was supposed to be the final piece of Roy Evan's jigsaw. Veron was meant to take the mancs to another level.
