CarraLegend Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liv...-name_page.html LIVERPOOL skipper Steven Gerrard is out of tomorrow's trip to Charlton. The Anfield captain has a knee injury which is certain to keep him on Merseyside, and also leaves him doubtful for the clash with Wigan on Saturday. There were fears the blow could be worse when Gerrard underwent a scan at Melwood yesterday. Fortunately, the knock appears to be a minor setback, but Rafa Benitez will be forced into a reshuffle ahead of the game. Gerrard suffered the knock during Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, but played through the pain barrier. Benitez must now decide whether to recall Didi Hamann, or simply play Luis Garcia on the right flank. Jerzy Dudek will return in goal after Liverpool decided not to appeal Pepe Reina's sending off.

Stew F Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 It must have been that challenge on the line with Terry (I think) it seemed to take him a while to get up
Stevie H Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 It must have been that challenge on the line with Terry (I think) it seemed to take him a while to get up was it terry or del horno? someone on the far side of the pitch which stevie was left limping from wasn't it? remember thinking at the time that the challenge was late and might have damaged him.
galés rojo Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 was it terry or del horno? someone on the far side of the pitch which stevie was left limping from wasn't it? remember thinking at the time that the challenge was late and might have damaged him. it was that c*** Robben.
Andy Mac Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I think he should take a rest over the next couple of games. I'm surprised, given his statement at the beginning of the season, that he hasn't been rested more. Back for Man Utd game !!
Kenny_ Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Play Garcia at right mid tomorrow. Had a great game there last season away to Charlton.
Bailo Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Not surprised at all. The lad is going to break down at some point given his game, his effort and the goalscoring burden he's been under.
matty Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Not necessarily a disaster. others need to *cliche alert* step up to the plate now. Come on lads, back to winning ways. Garcia - Alonso- Sissoko- Kewell Moro - Crouch
Guz Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Yup, from that moment where he got up and seemed to hobble around for a while. Feared the worst when he got up because he seemed in some discomfort. I thought it was alright though as in the last minute he chased back to block a Robben challenge as well. The rest will probably do him some good. I'd like to see a midfield of Garcia Didi Alonso Kewell tommorow, Xabi and Didi worked together with some success last year when Stevie was injured.
owenthomas Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 he'll benefit from a rest.have to say George, that was my first thought when i read this.. i don't think he'd be rested at the moment anyway so this could be a blessing in disguise (for wont of a better phrase!).. ..back & fully refreshed in time for the Man U game..
Guest Red Flame Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 As one poster has already implied, it has a certain inevitablility about it. StevieG has been playing at an increased tempo even for him ever since he was moved out to the right. He seemed intent on covering at least two positions with his rampaging runs through the middle as well. I hope Didi is fit enough to come back and Momo is allocated a place on the bench. Garcia for the RM spot. Cisse and Crouch up front. Robbie on the bench.
Skillz Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I think Cisse should play the next two games. both away should be to his advantage and he would be as fresh as anyone. I have been as disappointed in him as anyone but tell him he's getting 180 minutes up front and go with it eg last chance stuff if you know what i mean.
Falconhoof Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 He's got through a phenomenal amount of work this season. He's played a full season worth for some midfielders already. Players are definately showing the strain and I bet a few have been playing through injuries that are unreported.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 It must have been that challenge on the line with Terry (I think) it seemed to take him a while to get upYes, the one the ref ignored whereas if terry fell over one of the few baldes of grass on the pitch, freekick
Molby Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Not necessarily a disaster. others need to *cliche alert* step up to the plate now. Come on lads, back to winning ways. Garcia - Alonso- Sissoko- Kewell Moro - Crouchor Finnan wide right and Kronkamp right back - steel in the midfield and quality crosses which the strikers need and Garcia as impact sub if the game needs changing
Earl Hafler Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Or as some knowledgable fans would have you believe, "he bottled it against Chelsea again". He did a Henman.
floyd the barber Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 -----------------dudek---------------finnan-------carra--hyypia-----riise----------------------------------------garcia-----sissoko-alonso--kewell-------------cisse---crouch---------- With no gerrard,we shall definetly need sissokos energy.
Zoob Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I'm pretty sure that Robben did the damage - at the time I thought it was a terrible tackle, but no foul was given, and the commentators didn't even mention it.
Puskas Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 -----------------dudek---------------finnan-------carra--hyypia-----riise----------------------------------------garcia-----sissoko-alonso--kewell-------------cisse---crouch----------With no gerrard,we shall definetly need sissokos energy. I'd play that but with Agger in instead of Hyypia, who needs a rest as well.
Ronnie Whelan Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 No offence to stevie but him being out for two game is not the big deal it was 18 or even 12 months ago. We have plenty of option available for a midfield 4. He will be needed for the Manc game though.

Ronnie Whelan Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Really? Look at who's been scoring our goals... We can play football without him. Our strikers have been out of sorts so far this season, but we can get goals from other areas of the park with out without SG. It could be argued that without SG being there to take on the shots on goal that present themselves to a forward roving midfielder someone else will have those opportunities.
