BBC announces World Cup coverage

England's opening 2006 World Cup game against Paraguay in Frankfurt on 10 June will be exclusively live on BBC.

The BBC will also have live coverage of England's first knockout clash - possibly against hosts Germany or Poland - if they qualify.

And any England semi-final or final appearance would also be on the BBC as well as ITV.

ITV will be showing England's group games against Trinidad & Tobago and Sweden.

The BBC's coverage, revealed on Monday, will also feature the opening game of the tournament - Germany v Costa Rica in Munich on 9 June.

Brazil's two peak-time matches - against Croatia and Japan, kicking off at 2000 BST - will be on the BBC, as will Italy's opening game against Ghana.

All three group games involving France will feature on the BBC as well as Germany v Poland and the final group games involving Italy, the Czech Republic and Spain.

Germany V Costa Rica, with Motson commentating.

"And here we are in Mexico, I mean Italia 90, no, Mark, I mean Germany 2000 for the opening game. The kick off will take place in the centre circle, which is in Beckham terotery"

I consider the weekend to last at least from Friday to Monday.

And even the Koreans and Togans would struggle to get enthused by that clash on the Tuesday.

Schedules a little bit better than Korea/Japan for us in the US.

Are you getting the games in Hi-Def on a channel? All of them over here are broadcast in HD.

Graciously done, by Reading standards.

"And quite interestingly Mark, every single game up to and including this one have been started from the center spot, which I'm sure you'll agree is a quite phenomenal record."

I think the times are just perfect.

A 2pm kick off means 8am for me and the 5pm means 11am. The kids will be oput of school, the wife at work and I will have footy all morning.

After lunch it will be off to the pool for some afternoon sunbathing and beer.

YESSSSSSSS!!

Ahh I can't wait.

Even though the World cup will be beamed around the world in gloris High Def, the BBC will land us with 4:3, standard def and black and white pictures.
