Bootle Buck Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 He was the one forward we had who would work his @rse of to make something out of nothing. Instead we have 3 strikers who don't score much and who create few problems in the box for defenders. Milan was a headless chicken but he gave defenders many problems and opened up opportunities for others.
smicer07 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Cos he was greedy, but also didn't score enough- he wouldn't be answering our problems now..
Reggie Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 At least he could run with the ball at his feet. Crouch and Moro are too slow to beat the first man. Cisse's legs are too fast for his brain.

Owen1978 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I wont have anyone say a bad word against baros, he might not have been the RVN, Henry but he helped us win the CL all by himself upfront for the majority of the tournament! His endless running and pulling defenders out of place given others space does help!
Cunny Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 this will be 5 goals this season Baros? Our forwards are crap but Baros is not the answer
Reggie Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 this will be 5 goals this season Baros? Our forwards are crap but Baros is not the answer He is playing for Villa FFS. Hardly going to score 20+ playing for them.
slapnuts Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 He is playing for Villa FFS. Hardly going to score 20+ playing for them. who would? nee fecker
Cunny Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Luke Moore has 4 goals in 2 games for Villa. Milan has to ask himself why is he at a piss poor second rate outfit like villa. Why weren't Europe's best in for him last season?
Tones Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 He may not be "The Answer" but i agree with slapnuts, he was better than Cisse and Morientes. He put the effort in. Ok he run with his head down, but at least he made the runs, and had a bit of skill to go with it.
Reggie Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Some stats: Baros 5 goals in 18 league games Crouch 3 goals in 18 league games Cisse 4 goals in 11 league games Morientes 3 goals in 11 league games Selected Others: van Nistelrooy 18 goals in 22 league games Henry 15 goals in 18 league games Bent 12 goals in 22 league games
Guest Banjo Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Baros + Crouch reminds me of Baros + Koeller. He can't do any worse than the strikers we have at the moment.
Guest Kev Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Baros + Crouch reminds me of Baros + Koeller. He can't do any worse than the strikers we have at the moment. Koeller is a far far better player than Crouch, unfair.
diaspora Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Baros + Crouch reminds me of Baros + Koeller. He can't do any worse than the strikers we have at the moment. He probably won't be any worse, that would be difficult in terms of scoring goals, but would he be any better? The problem we have is identifying someone who will come here for the money we have. Could be a problem area for some time.
Guest Kev Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 The problem we have is identifying someone who will come here for the money we have. Could be a problem area for some time. Aye, that is one of my many fears at the moment.
alias75 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 We may have to sell 2 strikers to get the funds for 1. Lets hope Cisse has a good world cup (he certainly plays better for France) and we can get close to £10 million for him, i reckon Morientas isnt going to cut it so we should cash in while he still has some credibility in Europe. That should give Rafa enough money to find a quality finisher. Hopefully Robbie proves his worth and can play out another 2 years. Reckon we could get Defoe or Owen for the price of Cisse and Morientas (and thats not including any money Rafa would get for signings anyway)
Reggie Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Kuyt scored again this weekend bringing his tally to 16 for the seaon.
Falconhoof Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 It was blindingly obvious that Baros wasn't good enough. The same is now true of Morientes, Cisse and Crouch. Unless there is an astonishing upturn in their performances until the end of the season then we'll be in the market for new strikers in the summer.
pjwy Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 he's better than cisse and moro imo. True.and I'd sooner have him than Crouch if I'm absolutely honest even though he is a much different type of player! At least he would put defences under pressure and was reasonably quick unlike any of our current strikers.(Cisse runs fast but is'nt as nimble and 'quick').
lawrie Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Sorry, it wasn't blindingly obvious to me that Baros wasn't good enough. I was ok about him going only because I thought it meant Owen was coming back.

Reckon we could get Defoe or Owen for the price of Cisse and Morientas (and thats not including any money Rafa would get for signings anyway) Doubt we'll get anything like £10m for Cisse as I don't think he'll even get much of a lookin at the world cup showcase. Henry and Trezeguet might be ahead of him and others as well. I get the feeling he is fast becoming damaged goods, on a high wage as well and other clubs won't pay the fee and the wages. He might get the wages but we won't get the fee. Morientes would be £2m at best these days. At the end of this season he'll have been with us for 1.5 seasons and he hasn't fully adapted. terrible to be so negative but we have to have a fire sale of those on loan and nearly there to raise the funds and hope that some of the youngsters are good enough to come through halfway through next season. Being positive we are not that far off, in our recent defeats we have bossed the games for long periods and just need that absolute quality up front to beat a man and score or be in place to score off the crosses that we do put in.
Earl Hafler Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 The run we were on earlier in the season and the results we picked up wouldn't have been possible with Milan in the side. Cisse and Baros are similar types of forward in that they are difficult to play alongside, although i think Cisse should at least have been given a run in the centre when he came on as the aerial route to Crouch wasn't working. Luke Moore's finishes the other day were top class but is he having his 15 minutes or is it the start of something more substantial ?
Koller49 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) The run we were on earlier in the season and the results we picked up wouldn't have been possible with Milan in the side. Why not, bar a couple of good peformances from Crouch they were hardly achieved by good work from the Strikers. The Midfield and Defence won us those games. I don't think Baros would be the answer though to be honest - He never really fitted the Benitez system. I'd still say he's a better Striker at the moment then any of Moro, Cisse and Crouch though. I wouldn't of got rid of him in the summer, and I think you all know I've held that view all along, but I don't feel he'd be making much of a difference up top for us at the moment. Theres no doubt he'd work defence alot harder than what the strikers are doing at the moment - but like the 2nd half of last season, I don't think he'd score much. At Villa he's not doing badly, without setting it alight - he's scored 5 in his last 8 for Villa which isnt bad - also seems to play with his head up a bit more there - maybe its a confidence thing or something, but at Liverpool he never really played aswell as he could. A shame really, the first half of last season it looked like he was the answer - scored 10 goals, and generally looked a great attacking option. From January onwards he just couldn't get anything going. Great player when played in the right system, in a strike partnership - sadly he never really got a regular partner at Liverpool, he could of done a job. We should of brought Koller last year for a couple of Mill Rafa needs to buy someone in the Summer who can do a job - He must know a striker who can integrate into his style of play, but then as people say, we need the money first. Hope Fowler at least makes the bench on Weds aswell. Edited February 5, 2006 by Koller49
