libero Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Along the same lines as other thread but who in the past have we been linked with who you wish we had signed and never.Disregarding the Zidane link of course Personally I would have loved it if we signed Matt le Tissier who on a bigger stage surely would have become a great.
wildcatlh Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 (edited) Weren't we linked to Eto'o a few years back before he went to Barca? That would've been nice. Edited February 4, 2006 by wildcatlh
Guest Red Mist Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Maradona wanted to join us back in the 80's when he was considering leaving Barca. Would've been some signing.
Harrison Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 (edited) Remember us getting linked to Les Ferdinand in his QPR days always thought he would have been a good signing to play up front with Fowler at the time. Didn't we get linked to Brian Laudrup at some point? Would have loved him to sign think it was when he was at Rangers. Edited February 4, 2006 by Harrison

realtarragona Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Weren't we linked to Eto'o a few years back before he went to Barca? That would've been nice. I remember it was in the papers that Madrid may use him to get Owen, when they part-owned him. But I doubt that was realistic, considering the fee he eventually left for. A year or two earlier though, I'm sure it was Eto'o who said he'd love to play alongside Owen.
Harrison Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 we were linked to brian Laudraup during teh mid 80's. i think our European ban was the reason he never came Think that was michael laudrup, guess I'm just remembering some old random newspaper link from years ago bit like when we got linked to that Swiss player Alain Sutter after he scored in the World Cup in 1994. Now thats a random memory of pointless transfer links for ya
McBain Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Eto'o would have sent us crazy with his goals and passes ...
Earl Hafler Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Yeah, we were linked to Michael Laudrup. Brian Laudrup had that short spell at Chelsea...i thought they made a few great signings that summer what with Casiraghi joining aswell but everything went sour. I think Desailly would have been an excellent signing but he chose Chelsea. Alain Sutter - fastest left winger on Sensible Soccer . Played for Luasanne, didn't he ?

Played for Luasanne, didn't he ?No idea just remember a pointless link in some paper around the time, I think if I remember right around that time everton was supposed to sign Martin Dahlin but he went to the World cup scored a few and ended up somewhere else much to the disgust of my everton mates at the time Then again thanks to that World Cup Phil Babb managed to get into the view of Roy and the rest is a blocked out memory! Back to the links anyway, I always regretting us not trying harder to buy Marco Gabbiadini how the 90's would have been different
passater Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Derek Statham Didn't Statham actually have a physical and failed it? Think it was in Kenny's first season as manager.Benni McCarthy has been linked with almost every team in England over many many years....Surely the greatest recurring link was VdV?
R A Softlad Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Michael Laudrup was the player that the press thought we were after at Juve but it turned out to be Ian Rush's return. I'd have loved to see Zidane at Anfield, even at McDonalds.
Paul Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Ian Snodin.I was devastated when he went to Everton instead.
anfield Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 It was Etoo who said he would drive Anfield crazy with his goals and passes. And he probably would have too. He is a spitter though ..........
stressederic Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 It was Etoo who said he would drive Anfield crazy with his goals and passes. And he probably would have too. He is a spitter though .......... I remember reading an interview with him in the last 6 months or so, where he said we offered him an even bigger contract the nBarca but he wanted to stay in Spain.

Guest Barcamania Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 David Villa is a superb player, already world class
Bootle Buck Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I honestly would have loved us to get Malbranque. He's not as big a star as many mentioned but he would have solvd out RM problem for the last few years.
floyd the barber Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 hate to say it cos hes now a manc..........but we had a chance of getting Christiano Ronaldo for half the price the mancs paid... A quailty player, and just turned 21...........would`ve been an awesome signing for us.
Stevie H Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) remember being gutted that we didn't sign des walker from forest. Edited February 5, 2006 by Stevie H
HeWonItFromBrock Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Michael Laudrup was the player that the press thought we were after at Juve but it turned out to be Ian Rush's return. I'd have loved to see Zidane at Anfield, even at McDonalds. I think it was between us and Juve just before he left (Ajax??). Fagan tried really hard to get him. I actually think Figo would have been a revalation for a year or 2, and I think all the transfer malarky this season is rooted in our failure to get him - I think Benitez thought he was in the bag.
Eiler99 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 According to Micheal Laudrup's autobiography he was getting ready to go on a plane to Liverpool to sign the contract when they got a call that we ahd pulled out. He then joined Juve. IMO he's one of the best players in the world.
