4411 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Making sure he starts against Chelsea Xabi Alonso - February, 2th 2006 People often ask me how important Rafa Benítez was in my decision to join Liverpool and the answer is simple: fundamental. His determination to sign me and the confidence he placed in me were vital - I knew things would be far easier for me with a coach that knew me well and that had made such an effort to include me in his plans. He explained to me what he expected from me, what I could expect from the club and he really convinced me that coming to Anfield was the right move. I also knew him from his time at Valencia, of course, where he had won two league titles and the UEFA Cup in just three seasons. I would define him as a perfectionist. He's very methodical, very thorough, and has a keen eye for the tiniest details. He analyses the opposition, and his own team, very closely indeed. He's a big part of the reason that we won the European Cup. He was very important at pivotal moments and throughout the campaign with his decisions and tactical game plans. To take a club to the European Cup in your first season in charge is a huge, huge achievement - and one that surprised everyone. Everyone respects him, they all love him in Liverpool, and there's no at all doubt that he deserves it. http://spaces.msn.com/worldcup-es-uk/
Eiler99 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Nah, f*** him. He's s****. Take Real up on their interest and do a straight swap with Raul Bravo.
Paisley Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Well he's got his motivation to have an absolute blinder against Chelsea now. Come on Xabi lad!
Bootle Buck Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Players say things and they get rehashed time and time again. This has nothing to do with forgiveness just comments he made ages ago.
R A Softlad Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Reading between the lines it's an 'am I f*ck going to Real in the summer'...
Dule Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I felt sorry for Xabi when he gave that goal away, a few minutes later he was still trying to shake it off because he passed the ball to Riise on the left and placed it behind him about 10 metres off. Then the camera went to him and he was shaking his head in disbelief, definantly wasn't justice.
_00_deathscar Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Shame his free kick didn't go in either.
Chili Palmer Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 When a player makes a mistake, thats the kinda reaction you want to see from him, Alonso was doing everything possible and more to make up for his mistake. Brilliant player.
Stew F Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 If you put his little mistake into the context of a married man. He has enough brownie points for a three month bender in Bangkok with a £100.00 a day whoring budget and still have some left to watch every footie game Sky show when he gets home. I don't think Rafa will drop him
Romario Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 These things happen. We should have been about 3-0 up anyway against 10 men so it's not his fault.
gkmacca Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 King Kenny, Jan, Jari, Digger, Xabi - there's nothing better at a match than to watch a genuinely clever player. Long may Alonso stay.

Mike Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 although i went mad at him at the time when he put the ball in the net, i immediately felt sorry for him when he ran straight off the pitch at the final whistle. his face was ashen and he looked distraught.
Guest Sabre Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 He was distraught wasn't he? Felt bad for the lad - he's a good lad and he'll bounce back - it was hardly his fault we drew the game. We should have had it wrapped up ages ago
uppsala Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Is it me or has xabi looked a litle jaded for the past couple of months? Might just be Stevie G hogging the Lime light. Was gettin worried he might not be coping with the winter fixture pile up.
Hobbsie Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Wasn't just his fault - Reina could've shouted.. ..but his admiration for Rafa is just going to make Anny Road jealous..

Might just be Stevie G hogging the Lime light. Was gettin worried he might not be coping with the winter fixture pile up. He hasn't been hitting his passes but I think we lack options on the right flank. I also think we're playing a more direct game this season, what with Crouchy up top, so he's playing more speculative passes. The opposition are also going to pinpoint him as a danger man too. What he needs is Stevie G closer to him as Momo isn't a great passer.
IgPig Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 he's alsa more known to teams now and isn't getting as much room as he would like. They will have seen what happens if you do when we played Norwich at home last season.
Alonso Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 His passing may not be what it was last season (but still bloody good!) for the reasons mentioned but he has improved the physical side of his game and he seems fitter, stronger, faster and has improved hugely in his tackling. IMO he has an even better all round game now and can only get better being 24!
Guest Joaquin Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Watch out for Xabi this Sunday. After that error, he would be like a wounded dog.
