Are there elections coming up anytime soon for the Presidents in Real or Barca. My recollection is Real will happen first and I thought they were due every three years, which implies Perez faces a battle this summer. The fact you've not mentioned it (possibly due to the self-imposed exile) makes me wonder am I wrong.

 

Anyway I have a reason for asking

ALONSO IS ON REAL'S HIT LIST

LIVERPOOL face a summer battle to hold on to Xabi Alonso after Real Madrid targeted the midfielder.

The Anfield ace is part of a batch of new players - including Arsenal's Ashley Cole - on the Madrid shortlist. Alonso nearly moved to the Spanish giants in 2004 but a £12m deal was scrapped by then coach Jose Camacho at the last minute.

On top of that I've seen mention elsewhere from a reliable individual that the club are bracing themselves for a Real Madrid attempt at luring Alonso and Gerrard away this summer.

Could make for an interesting and traumatic summer in light of the engineered photos of Guti and Gerrard on the beach last summer. Any other tricks they might have lined up???

It's proper entertainment and intrigue seeing Real (or Barca for that matter) operating to get their man.

 

I'm not to worried the way things have been improving under Rafa about anything coming of Reals approaches but I'd appreciate your insight.

That's all in the news over here atm - but they were interested in him last year and then suddenly got scared off.

 

I think what is printed in the Mirror rag was the shopping list that Capello bandied round when he was negotiating a possible return in June.

 

 

 

They have been tapping up Reyes' dad. They have also asked Sevilla about the terms of a possible cash + swap deal for Alves in the summer.

 

Joaquin is still floating around in the air too. As is Ballack.

 

If they do get anyone from the Premier it will be Cole first.

 

I doubt XA would want to move - he'd be daft if he did...

I think they are both in the same year. However I thought they were every 4/5 years.

 

The last Real election was in 2004 though, remember Sanz (the other candidate and former President) saying that he would sign Baros (post becoming euro 2004 top scorer) if elected.

When the Bookworm Fashion Victim joined Real it was the year of the Barca elections too 2004 wasn't it??? Laporta claimed he'd sign him but the deal was already agreed with Real and Barca were made look right chumps.... All great fun at the time but Barca are having the last laugh.
