quibs Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Tottenham have beaten the transfer window deadline to capture midfielder Danny Murphy from Charlton in a deal which could be worth up to £2m. Spurs have succeeded in capturing the 29-year-old at the second attempt after he chose Charlton ahead of them when he left Liverpool in August 2004. But Murphy, who scored 10 goals in 64 appearances for the Addicks, became unsettled at the club. He completed his move just half an hour before the transfer window shut. Murphy told the Spurs website: "Spurs has always been a club that has attracted me, but whereas previously things didn't work out, this time they have and I am absolutely delighted. "I am looking forward to playing my part in the team Martin Jol is building." Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli added: "Danny is an experienced player who is used to playing at the highest level. "He has a fantastic ability to create chances and we are delighted that we have been able to bring him to the club."
Maldini Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 How many midfielders do they need? Ridiculous Just read they signed ANOTHER midfielder in Hossam Ghaly from Feyenoord, what the f*ck!

Didn't work out?! It's because he didn't want to play with foreign players and for a foreign manager. The daft racist. Hope Jol bought him just to rot in the reserves.
Guest Scot Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 The mouth. He'll flop and end up at Bolton or Derby as predicted here years ago.

Spurs were his first choice when he left Liverpool - the reason he didn't join them then was because he felt Santini wouldn't be there long. I'd say that was a pretty good hunch he had, up on a par with Quasimodo in fact. But don't let facts get in the way of a good lynching, eh?
Guest Sabre Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 There are a lot of players that have been bought recently that are simply moving on - Wayne Routledge must be gutted.
Cobs Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 or cos Santini wasn't offering 'guaranteed' 1st team football..... your love for Danny remains strong, i see....
Boca Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 When he joined Charlton he was quoted as saying one of the reasons he chose them over Spurs was that Charlton had an English manager.

cymrococh Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Martin is a more English name than Jacques.

Boca Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Some more of Danny's views from a couple of months back in the echo. I am not a xenophobe but....
Guest Anders Honoré Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Good luck danny. I reckon he'll be a succes there.

He's a footballer not a UN Spokesman - footballers aren't typically the sharpest tools in the box. Footballer in "saying something stupid" shocker.
Coyler Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Thickness should provide no exemption from criticism, having said that.

Whether or not that stemmed from his percieved mis-treatment by Rafa I don't know.
galés rojo Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 He may talk s*** but he had some great times at us and wish him well. However i can't see how he's going to get into the spurs midfield.

The fact he may have subsequently said something that people find unpalatable doesn't change that.

Fair enough if that was his reason, but you have to admit that interviews like the one in the echo muddy the water when you look back at the decision. If he feels strongly enough about something, and obviously he does in this instance, then surely it's reasonable to assume that he would take that into consideration when making that decision.

But it does make him look a pr*ck, and a bitter pr*ck and now a bigger pr*ck when he leaves to work for an foreign manager in a team of foreigners. Not that it matters.
